The Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT) will conduct the NSEP (Physics) exam registrations from August 1 to 20, 2025. Individual candidates will be able to register for the NSEP exam from August 21 to September 14, 2025, through the official website, iapt.org.in. The IAPT will conduct the NSEP exam on November 23, 2025, from 8:30 am to 10:30 am.

To register for the National Standard Examination in Physics (NSEP) for 2025-26, students are required to pay the NSEP application fee of INR 300/- per subject to successfully register themselves for the exam. Read further to get details on the steps to register for NSEP, application fee amount, eligibility criteria and more.

The first step before NSEP registration 2025-26 is to check the eligibility for the exam. The following is the complete eligibility criteria for NSEP 2025-26:
The candidate must be eligible to hold an Indian passport.
Candidates must be born between July 1, 2006, and June 30, 2011, including both days.
The applicant must have been living and studying in India since November 30, 2022, or earlier, OR The applicant must be studying in an Indian school system since November 30, 2022, or earlier
Candidate must not have completed (or scheduled to complete) the class 12 board examination earlier than November 30, 2025.
The candidate must not have commenced (or be planning to commence) studies in a university or equivalent institution by June 1, 2025.
The candidate must not be appearing in NSEJS 2025-26.

For the NSEP exam 2025-26, students can register through designated centres. IAPT also accepts direct student enrollment. For registrations through the centre, the applicant must pay the NSEP application fee to the centre-in-charge. For direct enrollment, students can pay the NSEP registration fee online. Mentioned below are the steps to register for NSEP in online mode:
Open the official website at iapt.org.in.
On the homepage, under the ‘Latest Notification’ section, click on the ‘NSEP 2025-26 Registration’ link.
Enter all the necessary information on the NSEP student registration page and click 'Generate OTP'.
Once the registration has been successful, log in again using the credentials and fill in all the required information.
Submit the required documents and other details.
Finally, pay the NSEP application fee for the exam. Click on the ‘Submit’ button to complete the registration process for NSEP 2025-26.
For students who want to register for NSEP through centres, they will need to pay an application fee of INR 300/- to the centre-in-charge.
Students directly applying through the IAPT website will have to pay the NSEP examination fee through bank transfer or online payment.
Students should note that the NSEP exam fee is non-refundable.

IAPT will release the NSEP exam admit card 2025-26 in October 2025.
Students will be able to download the NSEP admit card from iapt.org.in.
They will need to input their NSEP registration number to be able to access the NSEP hall ticket 2025-26.
Students who have registered for the IAPT NSEP exam 2025-26 should appear for the examination after carefully studying the prescribed NSEP syllabus.
The Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT) prescribes the syllabus of NSEP. The questions can be asked from the NCERT syllabus as well as equivalent to the senior secondary level.
The NSEP exam is conducted to evaluate the candidate's theoretical and experimental skills. Almost equal weightage will be given to Physics, Chemistry, and Biology and no questions will be asked directly about mathematics. Topics covered in the NSEP syllabus include:
Electromagnetic Fields
Oscillations and Waves
Dynamics
Mechanics
Genetics
Reproduction
Evolution
Measurement techniques and apparatus
Geometry and stereometrics, etc.
The NSEP 2025-26 exam will consist of two parts.
Part 1 will consist of 48 multiple-choice questions with one correct answer out of the given options, and Part 2 will consist of 12 MCQs with one or more correct answers.
The total score for NSEP 2025-26 will be 216.
There will also be a penalty of 1 mark for each wrong answer, and 3 marks will be awarded for each correct answer.
The language of the question paper will be available in English, Hindi, Gujarati, Bangla, Tamil, Telugu and any Indian language (provided 300 students opt for it.) During NSEP enrollment 2025-26, students must select one language of their preference.

The Indian Association of Physics Teachers will announce the NSEP result 2025-26 in December 2025.
After the NSEP 2025-26 exam, the toppers from each State/Union Territory will be eligible for the stage 2 exam, i.e., Indian National Olympiads (INOs) 2025 in respective subjects. The complete details will be published on the official website - iapt.org.in.
About 35 toppers of INPhO will qualify for the Orientation Cum Selection Camp (OCSC) for about two weeks at Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), Mumbai. Indian teams to participate in the International Olympiads will be selected based on the performance of students in the OCSC.
In addition, about 8 toppers from INPhO may get an opportunity to participate in the Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO). The APhO will be held in May 2026.

Students can download the NSEP admit card through the official website at iapt.org.in, once it is released.
No request for changing the exam centre is allowed.
NSEP stands for National Standard Examination in Physics, which is conducted by IAPT.
