Most Important CBSE Maths Chapters with High Weightage

CBSE Class 12 Maths carries 80 marks. To prepare for Class 12 Maths board exams students need to prepare strategically, for which it is important to know the weightage that each chapter carries. Below, we have provided a list of important chapters of CBSE Class 12 Maths.

Calculus: 35 marks

Calculus holds the highest weightage, accounting for 35 marks in total. Under Calculus, there are five chapters, continuity and differentiability, application of derivatives, integrals, applications of the integrals and differential equations. The marks are distributed randomly among the units. It can vary from 10 to 5 depending on the pattern of question paper.

Vector and Three-Dimensional Geometry: 14 marks

Vector and Three-Dimensional Geometry carry 14 marks, making it the second most important chapter in CBSE Class 12 Maths. Students must invest time in understanding the concept and practice the problem-solving questions to enhance and grasp every piece of information to score well in the Class 12 board examination.

Algebra: 10 marks

Under Algebra, there are two chapters, Matrices and Determinants. Algebra carries 10 marks. Questions related to algebra are quite common in CBSE Class 12 board exams. Students can prepare for algebra by solving the previous year’s paper and using reference books.

Probability: 8 marks

Probability holds 8 marks in total. Most of the questions are real-life situation-based or card/dice games. Students will be asked questions like ‘Find the probability of a situation that might happen in future’ or ‘What is the probability of a person committing an error in work’ etc. Students can solve previous years' question papers or sample papers to understand the concept and practice.

Relations and Functions: 8 marks

Relation and Functions has two chapters, Relations and Functions and Inverse Trigonometric Functions. It carries 8 marks. In Relations and Functions, students will be asked questions on reflexive, symmetric, transitive and equivalence relations. For Inverse Trigonometric Functions, they must practice graphs of inverse trigonometric functions.

Linear Programming: 5 marks

Linear Programming has the lowest weightage, it carries 5 marks in total. To know what kind of questions are asked during CBSE Class 12 board exams or to know questions related to linear programming in general, students can look up sample papers available on the official website of CBSE or check out reference books.

If you are planning to appear again for class 12th board exam with PCMB as a private candidate here is the right information you need:

  • No school admission needed! Register directly with CBSE. (But if you want to attend the school then you can take admission in any private school of your choice but it will be waste of money)
  • You have to appear for the 2025 12th board exams.
  • Registration for class 12th board exam starts around September 2024 (check CBSE website for exact dates).
  • Aim to register before late October to avoid extra fees.
  • Schools might not offer classes for private students, so focus on self-study or coaching.
