About KVPY 2018

The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is conducted and administered by the Indian Institute of Science(IISc) Banglore. KVPY 2018 is a national scholarship programme held to encourage students in pursuing courses in basic sciences. IISc Bangalore will release the KVPY cut off and KVPY result in the second week of December, 2018 in the online mode. The result of KVPY 2018 will be released in the form of pdf for all three streams category wise. Cutoff is the minimum score a candidate needs to score in order to qualify for the round of interview. Those who achieve the KVPY cut off 2018 will find their names in the merit list. 

Students, studying in class 11 to the first year of undergraduate programmes, can appear for the scholarship test, which is held in the computer-based mode. KVPY 2018 has been conducted on November 4, the admit card for which was released on October 12, 2018. KVPY 2018 was held for three categories- SA, and SB/SX, separately. On the basis of KVPY result 2018, candidates will be selected for the round of interview. Those who clear the interview will be awarded KVPY scholarship under each category.  The online application process for KVPY 2018 began on July 11, 2018, at 5 PM and the last date to fill the application form online was August 31, 2018, at 5 PM. The application fee payment for KVPY 2018 was till September 7, 2018 at 5 PM. The KVPY exam 2018 scholarship would be granted to the winners only after they start pursuing their UG courses in basic sciences, as approved by IISc Bangalore.

KVPY SA

The eligibility criteria for all the categories of KVPY 2018- SA, SB and SX are different. While SA is taken by students studying in class 11, SX is for students in class 12 and SB is for students in their first year of undergraduate programmes. IISc released the online KVPY application form on July 11, 2018. The last date to fill online application form was August 31, 2018. It is a three-step procedure wherein 

  • Step 1 is registration. Applicants should have a valid email ID and mobile number to register for KVPY
  • In the second step, applicants have to fill details including personal and academic, They also have to upload signature and photograph, 
  • In the last step, students have to make fee payment, which is to be done in the online mode via net banking, credit or /debit card payments.

The application fee for KVPY 2018 was Rs.1000 for general category students and Rs.500 for SC, ST and PwD students.  

Documents required for KVPY application form:

1. Scanned passport sized photograph in JPG/JPEG.  The image size should be less than 150 kb.

2. Scanned signature. The image size should be less than 80 kb. 

3. Scanned copy of caste certificate, if applicable. Pdf should be less than 300 kb.

4. Scanned pdf copy of medical certificate for PwD candidates, which should be less than 300 kb

The KVPY 2018 preparation tips are separate for SA, SB ans SX separately. Here are some of the preparation tips:

  • Candidates must prepare the whole syllabus, avoid skipping any topics.
  • Students must practice previous year question papers and sample papers as many times as required.
  • They must also practice the mock test provided by KVPY which allows them to experience actual exam environment.
  • Exercise regularly and take breaks in between studies to keep you fresh and active.
  • Revise all topics a month before the exam.
  • Students preparing for competitive exams like JEE, NEET need not to separately study for KVPY as the syllabus is same. So they can easily go through KVPY exam.

KVPY 2018 Exam Pattern

KVPY SA

  • KVPY exam is a computer-based test consisting of 80 multiple choice questions. It is divided into two parts – Part 1 consists of 60 questions of 1 mark each for right answers and negative marking of 0.25 marks for wrong answers
  • Part 2 consists of 20 questions of 2 marks each for right answers and negative marking of 0.5 marks for wrong answers. 
  • KVPY exam for stream SA is of three hours duration conducted from 9:30 AM to 12: 30 PM.
  • Attempting all questions is compulsory.

KVPY SX

  • KVPY exam is a three hours computer-based test of 160 marks. It comprises of 120 multiple choice questions divided into two parts. Part 1 and 2 have four subjects including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology.
  • Part 1 has 80 questions of 1 mark each. 0.25 mark is deducted for every wrong answer. 
  • Part 2 has 40 questions of 2 marks each. 0.5 mark is deducted for every wrong answer. 
  • KVPY exam for stream SX will be conducted in the afternoon from 2:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Students have a choice to attempt three subjects from part I and two subjects from part II. If they attempt all of them then the best of scores will be considered.

KVPY SB

  • KVPY exam is a three hours duration test consisting of 120 multiple choice questions. The test is computer-based of 160 marks.
  • Part 1 will consist of 80 questions. Students will get 1 mark for every right answer. For every wrong answer, there is a negative marking of 0.25 mark. 
  • Part 2 will consist of 40 questions. Students will get 2 marks for every right answer. For every wrong answer, there is a negative marking of the 0.5 marks.
  • Both the parts have a total of four subjects namely Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics wherein students have a choice to attempt any three subjects in part one and any two subjects in part two. In case they attempt all, scores of the best will be considered.
  • KVPY exam has been conducted in the afternoon from 2:00 AM to 5:00 PM for SB Stream.

KVPY mock test 2018 was available for KVPY candidates. The mock test of KVPY enables candidate to experience actual exam environment. Not only they get well versed with exam pattern, they also get to know about their weak areas which need to be focused more on.  Here are some points to note about KVPY mock test:

1. The KVPY 2018 mock test is available both in Hindi and English

2. Candidates can sign in directly without using their login ID and password to access the mock test

3. The KVPY mock test is divided into two parts, comprising questions from Mathematics, Science, Physics and Chemistry

4.  The total duration of the mock test of KVPY is 180 minutes

KVPY admit card was released on October 12, 2018, in the online mode. Candidates can download it entering their login details. Admit card of KVPY contains details regarding candidates roll no., name, exam centre, photograph, signature, exam slot etc. Admit card is an essential component to sit for the exam. No student is allowed to enter exam hall without admit card. Candidates can download the KVPY 2018 admit card till the day of the exam i.e November 4, 2018. 

Here are the steps to download the admit card of KVPY 2018:

1. Click on the link 'KVPY Admit Card 2018'.

2. Candidate must log in to their KVPY application.

3. Click on Admit Card Tab. After that select assessment from the drop-down menu.

4. Click on Search Button and candidate can download their admit card.

4. Take a printout of the admit card of KVPY 2018.

IISc Bangalore has announced that it will release the KVPY result 2018 for aptitude test in the second week of December, 2018 in the online mode. The result of KVPY 2018 will be announced in the form of pdf which will contain the names of shortlisted candidates who have been selected for the round of interview. Here are the steps to download KVPY result:

1. Click on the KVPY result 2018 link given above

2. The pdf of merit list will be given stream wise and category wise

3. Select stream- SA, SX and SB for your category

4. The name, roll number and application number of shortlisted candidates will be displayed.

5. Download KVPY result 2018 on finding your name. This shall be carried for the interview.

5. Keep a copy of the result for future reference 

IISc has released the official KVPY answer key for stream SA, SX/SB online on November 9, 2018. Many renowned coaching centres also released the answer key of KVPY 2018 on the day of exam. The KVPY answer key helps candidates to analyze their answers and calculate their probable score. KVPY 2018 answer key can be downloaded in pdf format separately for all three streams i.e SA, SB and SX. To download the KVPY answer key, candidates have to first select the stream that they wrote in the exam. Candidates can download the answer key and check the answer.  

On finding any mistake in the KVPY answer key, candidates have to inform the same to the conducting body. Along with the answer key, the conducting authority has also published the question papers of KVPY 2018.

KVPY cut off is the minimum qualifying score calculated combined for aptitude test and interview. The students who qualify the KVPY cut off are eligible to avail KVPY scholarship. The merit list of KVPY is prepared based on the cut off of the exam. IISc releases both category-wise and stream-wise cut off of KVPY. Students can check the cut off of the previous year to get an understanding of the KVPY 2018 cut off. Here is the cut off of the previous year:
