KVPY 2018


KVPY 2018 – The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore will conduct Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojna / KVPY 2018 on November 4, across 99 exam cities in the online mode. KVPY is a national level fellowship programme which is conducted under three streams namely SA, SX and SB. Students who have enrolled themselves in 11th, 12th and first year of graduation (Science subjects) can apply for KVPY 2018 under SA, SX and SB streams, respectively. It is a scholarship exam for shortlisting candidates pursuing research in Science. KVPY application form for fellowship exam is available from July 11 to August 31, 2018 in the online mode only.

KVPY selection process comprises an aptitude test followed by a personal interview held by IISc. KVPY 2018 fellowships will be granted to selected candidates only after they start pursuing undergraduate courses in basic sciences, such as B.S./B.Sc./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S. in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, and Zoology among others. KVPY 2018 Eligibility Criteria


Only students meeting the eligibility criteria of KVPY 2018 can apply for the fellowship. KVPY eligibility criteria for each stream are different and details of the same can be checked below:

Marks in class 10: 75% (65% for SC/ST/PWD) aggregate in Maths and science subjects

Marks in class 12: 60% (50% for reserved categories)

KVPY 2018 Application Form


The online KVPY application form 2018 has been released on July 11 and the last date to apply is August 31. Candidates have to follow a series of steps to fill the application form of KVPY like registering, filling the details, uploading documents, paying the non-refundable fee and finally submitting the form. The steps are detailed below.


KVPY 2018 Application fee

  • For General and OBC category - Rs. 1000.

  • For SC/ST/PwD candidates - Rs 500. 

Step 1: Click on the application link to start the application process.

Step 2: Register for KVPY 2018 by entering the name, date of birth, class, stream, mobile, email ID and nationality. 

Step 3: After successfully registering, the login credentials will be sent via email and SMS. Login using the details and fill personal and educational details. 

Step 4: Upload photograph (in JPG/JPEG format with a file size less than 150 KB), signature (in JPG/JPEG format with a file size less than 80 KB). SC/ST and PWD candidates must also upload a scanned copy of caste certificate while PwD candidates must upload the medical certificate in PDF format (less than 300 KB).

Step 5: Choose four test centres in the order of preference.

Step 6: Preview and submit the application form of KVPY. 

Step 7: Pay KVPY 2018 exam fee (payable online via credit card/debit card/net banking).


Important: Candidates are advised to check their KVPY 2018 application status to know if it has been submitted successfully. They are also advised to take a printout of the same for future reference.

Details about the exam centres will be mentioned on the admit card, which candidates will be able to download online. The exam will be conducted across various KVPY 2018 exam centres in 99 exam cities in India such as Agra, Allahabad, Ambala, Bangalore, Chennai, Dehradun and Delhi among others. KVPY 2018 Admit Card


The admit card will be released by Indian Institute of Science, (IISc) Bangalore in the second week of October. Candidates who are appearing for the exam can download KVPY 2018 admit card by logging in and entering the requisite credentials. One must check that all details printed on KVPY 2018 admit card are correct. Students must also read the exam day guidelines given in KVPY hall ticket immediately after downloading it to avoid hassles on the day of the exam. Lastly they must carry the admit card while appearing for the exam failing which they will not be allowed to appear for the same. The step-wise procedure to download KVPY admit card has been provided below: 

  • Click on KVPY admit card 2018. Go to the link for downloading hall ticket which will be made available as soon as it is released.

  • Enter login credentials, viz., application number and date of birth in the login window

  • Click on login. KVPY 2018 admit card will appear on the screen

  • Check the details mentioned on KVPY admit card 2019 and download it

  • Take a printout of KVPY hall ticket and retain it for future reference

Candidates who are appearing for KVPY 2018 should carry the following documents to their allotted exam centres:

  • School/College ID or Aadhar Card or Passport with clear photograph


KVPY 2018 Preparation Tips

  • Students should clear all their basic concepts first and then proceed further to problem-solving.

  • If you are also preparing for competitive exams, such as IIT JEE and NEET, the KVPY syllabus is almost the same. You will be able to solve most of the KVPY questions.

  • Candidates must solve KVPY previous year question papers and sample papers as much as possible.

  • Take a mock test. Taking a mock test is important as you get to know how the actual exam would be and it reduces your exam fear.

  • When you have a few days left for the exam, revise concepts. If you have notes where you have noted down the important formulas, theorems and key terms, go through them.

KVPY 2018 Syllabus


Students preparing for KVPY 2018 have to cover all important topics from the sections in KVPY sylalbus 2018. The sections covered the syllabus of KVPY are Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. There is no such prescribed syllabus for KVPY 2018 as the exam aims at testing the analytical ability and understanding of candidates rather than their factual knowledge. The test will cover topics from the syllabus up to class 10/ 12/ 1st year of B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S., depending on the stream applied for.


KVPY Question Papers 2018


The examination authority has released previous years’ question papers of KVPY in English and Hindi. Candidates can download the same and practise them to get an idea about the type of questions asked in the exam. Thorough practice of these question papers will help students familiarise themselves with KVPY exam pattern 2018, important topics for the exam and difficulty level of the exam.


KVPY 2018 Sample Papers


Candidates can use KVPY sample papers to prepare better for the exam. Candidates can also check and download previous years’ KVPY question papers to know the exam pattern and type of questions asked in the exam. The previous years papers are available for download for the past few years. Since the exam will be in the CBT mode, IISc Bangalore will also release KVPY mock test to help candidates get an idea about.


KVPY 2018 Mock Test


KVPY 2018 is a computer based test. To allow candidates to get an idea of the exam pattern, environment etc, IISC Bangalore will release the mock test of KVPY 2018 soon. Candidates can simply use the KVPY 2018 mock test to practise and check how the exam will be like and get an idea of the number of questions, duration of the same.


KVPY 2018 Answer Key


The answer key of KVPY 2018 will be released within four to five days after the examination. The official answer key is released for candidates so that they can verify their answers in the examination. The KVPY 2018 answer key will be available in online mode only and candidates can download it. The official answer key will be available for each stream- SA and SB/SX papers in pdf format. Candidates can use the answer key to calculate their probable scores in the exam.


KVPY 2018 Result


The result for the written test will be published by IISc in the third week of December 2018. The result will be available in PDF format separately for SA stream and SB/SX. Students can download KVPY result using the steps given below:

KVPY Cutoff 2018


IISc sets the cutoff marks of KVPY for the final selection. The cutoff is the minimum qualifying marks set for the aptitude test and personal interview of each stream. Candidates who will qualify as per KVPY 2018 cutoff marks will only be shortlisted for fellowship programme. The cutoff of KVPY 2018 will be different for each stream. KVPY 2018 Selection Procedure


Candidates who qualify in the aptitude test will be called for a personal interview, which will be the final stage of KVPY selection procedure. Students who are selected will be able to avail KVPY fellowship only after they start pursuing undergraduate courses (B.S./B.Sc./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S.) in basic sciences, such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology or any other science subject as prescribed by IISc. 


Documents required at the time of Interview:


Candidates must bring the following documents at the time of interview

1. Application form and Interview call letter

2. Admit card of Aptitude test.

3.Original Marks card.(10th Marks card for Stream SA/SX and 12th for Stream SB)

4. Caste certificate for SC/ST candidates issued by the Competent Authority.

5. Medical certificate from competent authority in case of physically and visually challenged students

6. A Self-Appraisal form.

7. Study certificate form. It should be obtained from your Principal/Head of the Institution where you are currently pursuing your studies.

8. Teacher Recommendation Form (in Sealed envelope).

KVPY 2018 FAQs


Q. Can I avail the KVPY Fellowship if I already have another merit scholarship? 

A: No. KVPY scholarship cannot be availed simultaneously with another fellowship /scholarship, be it government or private. In order to avail KVPY 2018 Fellowship, students will have to relinquish any other fellowship or scholarship that they are in receipt of. 


Q. Who do I contact in case I have any KVPY examination centre related queries? 

A: Students can send their queries through e-mail to [email protected] (for application related queries) and [email protected] (for fellowship-related queries). 


Q. What are the examination timings of KVPY 2018? 

A: KVPY 2018 for Stream SA will be held from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and that for stream SB/SX will be conducted from 2 pm to 5 pm. Candidates should report to their allotted exam centre before 1 hour. 


Q. What is the syllabus for KVPY 2018? 

A: IISc Bangalore has not prescribed any specific syllabus for the aptitude test. Students will be evaluated on the basis of their understanding and analytical ability. However, there will be questions from the syllabus up to class X/XII/ UG first year as applicable.


Q. Can I carry the calculator in KVPY examination hall?

A: No, calculators or any electronic devices are not allowed. You can use Virtual calculators which will be made available on the computer screen.


Q. Can I attempt KVPY in Hindi Language?

A: Yes, you can attempt the KVPY 2018 exam in either English or Hindi Language.
