Only those candidates who fulfil the KVPY eligibility criteria can apply for the KVPY 2019 fellowship. Each stream of KVPY specifies different eligibility criteria. The requirement of every stream is mentioned below:
KVPY 2019 registration process was held from July 8 to August 31, 2019. Students can complete the KVPY registration by following 4 simple steps, provided below.
Students can follow the given steps to fill the KVPY application form:
Step 1: KVPY 2019 Registration- Candidates should click on " KVPY-2019 online application portal" OR use the "Applications" on the menu bar to click on “Registration and Application login” tab on the official website. They can register by using a valid e-mail ID and mobile number. After successful registration, the candidate receives a confirmation mail on the registered E-mail ID/Mobile Number with details of a computer-generated username and password.
Step 2: Filling All Asked Details- Candidates should log in to their account with the help of the username and password sent via SMS or email. They must fill the application form with correct personal and academic information and select three test centres as per their preference.
Step 3: Upload the Required Documents- In this step, candidates should upload the scanned images of their recent passport-size photograph, and signature in JPG/JPEG format. The file-sizes should be below 500 KB and 200 KB respectively.
Step 4: Payment of Application Fees- After filling the application form, candidates must pay the requisite application fee through online or offline mode.
KVPY application fee differs according to the category of candidates. The fee structure according to the categories is tabulated below.

The exam will be conducted across various KVPY exam centres in 111 exam cities in India. Candidates have to select at least three preferences of exam cities while filling in the application form of KVPY. The exact KVPY Exam 2019 centre venue address will be mentioned on the admit card. Refer to the table to check the list of exam cities.

IISc Bangalore will release the mock test of KVPY 2019 in the second week of September. This is provided to enable students to understand how the exam will be like and to use it for practice purposes. Candidates are advised to complete the KVPY mock test within the stipulated time. It is to be noted that the mock test does not give the scores after it is completed. However, candidates must use it to analyze their performance on the basis of time taken to answer the paper, the questions that took long to solve, accuracy levels etc.
Practising with previous years’ question papers of KVPY is a good practice as it allows students to get familiar with the exam and boosts their confidence. It also allows for understanding the type of questions, weightage of topics that may be asked in the exam. Candidates can also understand the difficulty levels of the test. IISc Bangalore will release the KVPY answer key online for all streams along with the question papers tentatively in the second week of November. The KVPY answer key will be in the form of pdfs and candidates can use them to compare their own answers. The answer key carries the correct answers to all the questions asked in the exam. With the help of the KVPY 2019 answer key, candidates can calculate their probable score before the announcement of result.
Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore will release KVPY result of the aptitude test online in the third week of December 2019. The KVPY 2019 result for the aptitude test will be announced in the form of pdfs for each stream and category. Students shortlisted in the lists will have to download their interview letter. The final KVPY result will be available through the candidate login where they must enter their KVPY application number and date of birth.
IISC, Banglore will announce sets the cutoff marks for the aptitude test first. The final cutoff for awarding the fellowship will be announced after the completion of the interview round and finalizing the list of candidates for each category and stream. KVPY cutoff marks are the minimum marks required to be shortlisted for the interview and thereafter the fellowship. The cutoff will be separate for the aptitude test and final selection.

The selection process of KVPY includes two stages, written test and personal interview. Candidates who qualify the written test with minimum cut off marks will be called for interview round, to be held in the third week of January 2020. Shortlisted candidates will receive interview dates, time & venue through email/website. While appearing for the KVPY 2019 interview, candidates should bring the given document for verification-
KVPY 2019 interviews are likely to be held in January/ February 2020 at IISc Bangalore. Students who qualify the written test with minimum cut off marks will be called for the interviews. KVPY scholarship will be awarded to candidates who qualify in both the aptitude test and interview but only if they pursue an undergraduate course in Basic Sciences. This fellowship of KVPY will be initiated only after they take admissions to approved UG science courses. Initially, the scholarship will be awarded for only one year to be renewed only if candidates pass the first year with 60% or equivalent (50% for SC/ST & PwD candidates).
