The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) offers a comprehensive list of subjects for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination. These subjects are categorised into first languages, second and third languages, science and maths subjects, and vocational/elective subjects.
Students can enter three times X instead of their mother's name to check the Maharashtra 10th class result if they are unable to enter their mother’s name.
Each subject carries 100 marks, comprising an 80-mark written exam and 20 marks of internal assessment (including practicals, projects, oral, etc.). To pass, a student must score at least 35 marks in each subject (i.e. 35%) individually and overall. Check the list of Maharashtra SSC subjects below.
In the Maharashtra SSC, students are required to take six subjects in total as part of their board examinations. Four are compulsory core subjects: English, mathematics, science and social science. These are mandatory subjects of the SSC curriculum. Two additional elective language subjects, chosen from a wide range of options such as Marathi, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Gujarati, Sanskrit, French, German, and more. Check the list of all languages offered in the Maharashtra SSC subjects.

In the New Education Policy (NEP 2020), a three‑language formula was recommended, requiring students to learn three languages, with at least two of them being Indian languages. However, the policy explicitly states that no language should be imposed.
Maharashtra had announced the implementation of this, making Hindi the third language in addition to Marathi and English, starting from Class 1 (academic year 2025‑26) and extending through Class 5, and later up to Class 12.
Due to widespread protests and strong backlash over the perceived imposition of Hindi, the Maharashtra government revoked two official orders (GRs) issued in April and June 2025. There is currently no mandatory third language in place.
