SOF NSO 2018 – Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) has opened the National Science Olympiad (NSO) registrations for class 1 to 12. The NSO 2018 is to be conducted on November 1, 15 and 27, 2018. Students can register for NSO 2018 by filling the form and submitting it along with the registration fee of Rs.125 before the last date which is one month before the chosen date of exam or October 1, 15 and 27 2018 respectively. The registration form of SOF NSO can be taken from their respective schools. Students should register through their respective schools only. Individual registrations by students will not be accepted. NSO is an annual scholarship exam that aims at cultivating scientific reasoning and logical ability among school students. Every year, around 10 lakh students register for NSO. It is conducted at two levels:
Level 1: The first level of the test is organized in the respective schools of the participants during school hours.
Level 2: The level 2 is conducted for students of class 3 to class 12. The shortlisted students to second round include the following:
Top 5% of candidates, class-wise, who appear in the 1st level exam. In case of a tie of marks, due weightage to marks scored in different sections will be given.
Top 25 rank holders class wise & Zone wise.
Class topper where at least 10 students from a class appear in the exam & score 50% qualifying marks.

NSO 2018 Eligibility Criteria
Students of classes 1 to 12th are eligible to appear for the 1st level NSO once a year.
How to register for NSO 2018?
Prospectus containing the Registration forms are sent to all schools registered with SOF. The registration forms must be returned to SOF by the schools, duly filled in along with fee, by the due date.
The school’s coordinating teacher will generate the students’ Roll Numbers. The documents to be sent to the Foundation’s office includes a copy of these roll numbers along with the Students’ Registration Sheet (SRS) and School Registration Form (SRF).
Foundation will release the question papers and guidelines for conducting the examination. A minimum of 10 students need to be registered from each school for the National Science Olympiad. Each date of exam would have a separate question paper.
SOF NSO 2018 Exam Pattern
Students can follow the below exam pattern of NSO 2018 for better preparation.
(i)The level 1 of NSO is an objective-type test of 60 minutes duration comprising of 35 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for class 1 to class 4 and 50 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for class 5 to class 12.
(ii) The question paper consists of three sections:
For Class 1 to Class 10
Section-1: Logical Reasoning
Section-3: Achievers Section
For Class 11 and Class 12
Section-2: Achievers Section
(iii) There are separate question papers for each class.
(iv) NSO 2018 will be conducted in English.
(v) CBSE, ICSE/ISC and State Board syllabi are followed for setting the test papers.
NSO 2018 Syllabus
For better preparation of NSO exam, students must know the complete National Science Olympiad Syllabus and cover the topics covered. Students must note that questions of level-I Olympiad exams will consist of 60% questions from the current class syllabus and 40% from the previous class syllabus. Questions of level-II Olympiad exams will only be from the current class syllabus.
How to prepare for SOF NSO Level 1?
Students may refer to the points below for preparation of NSO 2018.
Know the syllabus and exam pattern: One must know the complete syllabus and exam pattern of NSO. Syllabus mentions the topics covered in exam whereas paper pattern will let you get familiar with the marking scheme, types of questions asked and time allotted.
Understand the standard of questions: Questions would mostly be of varying difficulty level. The questions would test logical and observational skills of the students besides the conceptual knowledge. There will be no direct questions but rather an application of a previously studied concept is more likely to form the base of a question.
Know the relevant books: One needs to thoroughly study the course books suggested by the school board (ICSE/ CBSE/ State Board). In addition to this, one can also refer to books available for Olympiad preparation by SOF itself. The books prescribed for NSO are as follows:

NSO Result 2018
SOF will release the result of NSO 2018 in the last week of December, 2018. Candidates can get to know their result by school authorities or can even check it online on the official website of SOF. Shortlisted students will be eligible to sit for NSO level 2 to be conducted in January/February, 2019.
