SOF IMO 2018 – The International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) is a scholarship exam conducted annually by the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF). IMO 2018 exam is conducted in two levels: (Level 1 & 2). Level 1 can be attempted by all the students of classes 1-12 whereas level 2 is held for students of classes 3-12. Students could register for SOF IMO 2018 exam by filling the application form and submitting it to the respective school authorities along with a registration fee of Rs.125, before the last date which was November 4, 13 and 18, 2018 on the basis of the date chosen for the exam. IMO 2018 Level 1 was conducted on December 4, 13 and 18 and the result was declared on January 14, 2019. The admit card of SOF IMO 2018 for level 2 exam was released on the first day of February 2019 and the exam was conducted on February 9 and 10, 2019 between 2 and 3 pm at 500 centres approximately across the globe. The centre allotted for exam was mentioned in the admit cards which were released in online mode.  The result of Science Olympiad Foundation IMO 2018 level 2 has been declared on March 15, 2019. IMO 2018 Result - Level 1 & 2

SOF declared the IMO result for Level 1 on January 14, 2019. The results for Level 1 were also sent to schools along with a detailed Student Performance Report (SPR), certificate and medals for Toppers. Those who cleared level 1 result appeared for level 2 exam on February 9 and 10, 2019 and the results for level 2 of SOF IMO 2018 has been declared on March 15, 2019 in the online mode.

IMO 2018 Answer Key - Level 1

The official answer key has been released for the level 1 exam was conducted on December 4, 13 and 18. Students can use it to check the answers they have marked. It also helps them to calculate an approximate score and verify the result. Accordingly, students can start their preparations for the level 2 exam.

SOF IMO 2018 Eligibility Criteria

Students studying in classes 1 to 12 can appear for level 1 of IMO Exam. Selected students from classes 3 to 12 also have to appear for Level 2.

Students who qualify for the Level 2 exam include:

  • Top 5% of the students from each standard

  • Zone wise top 25 rank holders from each standard.

  • Students scoring at least 50% qualifying marks and are also the class toppers from a batch of at least 10 students from a participating school. Candidates with highest marks will qualify for level 2, in case registration is received section wise. For section wise registrations, the winner(s) of the gold medal may not necessarily qualify for the Level 2.

Registration Form of SOF IMO 2018

SOF sends the prospectus containing the registration forms to all the schools registered with them. Schools will have to submit the filled forms before the last date to SOF along with requisite fees i.e. 125 Rupees. Here are a few points to remember before filling the form:

  • Students could only register through their schools.

  • There is no independent/ individual registration for students.

  • There is a registration fee of Rs. 125 per student and for International schools, the fee is US$9 per student.

  • Fee includes 18% GST.

  • The last date to submit application form was one month before the chosen date of exam, i.e., November 4, 13 or 18, 2018.

IMO 2018 Syllabus

The syllabus for the Olympiad exam is the same as prescribed by the CBSE, ICSE and various state boards. If you sit for the second level and have moved onto the next class, the syllabus of SOF IMO 2018 will remain the same i.e. of the previous class.

IMO 2018 Admit Card

The admit card for Level 2 was released in online mode on the official website of SOF. It could be easily downloaded by entering the student's registration no./roll no. while for the level 1 admit card was available in offline mode at respective schools. 

SOF IMO 2018 Exam Pattern

The SOF International Mathematics Olympiad is conducted at two levels. Level 1 is conducted for all students while those who qualify level 1 will appear for the level 2 exam. Students of classes 1 and 2 had to appear for Level 1 only.

Level 1: It is conducted during the school hours by the respective schools of the participants.

(i) The level 1 IMO is an objective-type test of 60 minutes duration comprising 35 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for class 1 to class 4 and 50 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for class 5 to class 12.

(ii) The question paper consists of four sections:

(iii) There are separate question papers for each class.

(iv) The medium of the exam is English.

(v) CBSE, ICSE/ISC, and State Board syllabi are followed for setting the test papers.

Level 2 is conducted for class 3 to class 12 students who qualify level 1 exam. The syllabus and the number of questions etc remain the same in the level 2 exam. The question paper consists of 2 sections:

Students must practice with the official sample papers as given by SOF to prepare for the actual exam day. Not only it makes candidates well verse with exam pattern they can also focus on their weak areas. IMO sample papers can be easily downloaded as pdf and practised as many times required.

SOF IMO 2019-20 - Important dates

Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) has released the exam schedule for 2019-20 session. The conducting body announced two dates of IMO Exam. Schools will choose one date to conduct the exam for their schools. Once the date is chosen, can not be changed. The exam will be conducted on December 5 and 17, 2019.
