SOF IMOSOF IMO 2018 – The International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) is a competitive exam conducted annually by the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF). Students from classes 1 to 12 can appear for the exam by registering through their schools. Registrations for SOF IMO 2018 are open. Students can register for IMO exam 2018 by filling the application form and submitting it along with a registration fee of Rs.125 to the respective school authorities before the last date, which is August 31, 2018. IMO 2018 will be conducted on December 4, 13 and 18. For students of classes 3 to 12, the SOF IMO 2018 has two levels. Level 1 is conducted at the schools. IMO 2018 Eligibility Criteria


Students studying in classes 1 to 12 are eligible to appear for level 1 of IMO Exam. Selected students from classes 3 to 12 also have to appear for Level 2.


Students who qualify for the Level 2 exam include:

  • Top 5% of the students from each standard

  • Zone wise top 25 rank holders from each standard, and

  • Students scoring at least 50% qualifying marks and are also the class toppers from a batch of at least 10 students from a participating school. Candidates with highest marks will qualify for level 2, in case registration is received section wise. For section wise registrations, winner(s) of gold medal may not necessarily qualify for the Level 2.

IMO 2018 Registration Form


SOF sends the prospectus containing the registration forms to all the schools registered with them. Schools submit the filled forms along with requisite fees, before the last date to SOF. Here are few points to remember before filling from:

  • Students can only register through their schools.

  • There is no independent/ individual registration for students.

  • There is a registration fees of Rs. 125 per student.

  • Last date to submit application form is August 31, 2018

IMO 2018 Admit Card


The school teacher from respective schools coordinating IMO exam will generate the students’ Roll Numbers for Level 1 IMO exam.

The admit card for Level 2 is available online on the official website of SOF. It can be easily downloaded by entering the students registration no./roll no.


IMO 2018 Exam Pattern


The SOF International Mathematics Olympiad is conducted at two levels. Level 1 is conducted for all students while those who qualify Level 1 can appear for Level 2. Students of classes 1 and 2 have to only appear for Level 1.

Level 1: It is conducted during the school hours by the respective schools of the participants.


(i) The level 1 IMO is an objective-type test of 60 minutes duration comprising 35 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for class 1 to class 4 and 50 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for class 5 to class 12.

(ii) The question paper consists of four sections:




Logical Reasoning


Mathematical Reasoning


Everyday Mathematics


Achievers Section


(iii) There are separate question papers for each class.

(iv) The medium of the exam is English.

(v) CBSE, ICSE/ISC and State Board syllabi are followed for setting the test papers.


Level 2: It is conducted for students of class 3 to class 12. The question paper consists of 2 sections:

IMO 2018 Syllabus


The syllabus for the olympiad exam is the same as prescribed by the CBSE, ICSE and various state boards. If you sit for the second level and have moved onto the next class, the syllabus will remain the same i.e. of the previous class.

  • Additionally, class XI and XII students can refer to the various magazines like Chemistry Today, Biology Today, Mathematics Today and Physics For You.

IMO Sample Papers


Students must practice from the official sample papers as given by SOF to prepare for the actual exam day. Not only it makes candidates well verse with exam pattern, they can also focus on their weak areas. IMO sample papers can be easily downloaded as pdfs and practised as many times required.


IMO 2018 Answer Key


The official answer key is released within 15-20 days after the commencement of exam. Students can use it to check the answers they have marked. It also helps them to calculate an approximate score. Accordingly, students can start their preparations for level 2 exam.


IMO 2018 Result


SOF will declare the IMO result for Level 1 in the last week of January, 2019. The results for Level 1 are also sent to schools along with a detailed Student Performance Report (SPR) and medals for Toppers. The results for level 2 will be declared in the last week of April, 2019 in online mode.
