Jasudben ML School Students Raise Funds For The National Association for the Blind (NAB)

Jasudben ML School, Mumbai, students of pre-primary wing and class 4 recently visited the National Association for the Blind (NAB), located in Worli, Mumbai. Students were shown videos before visiting NAB to help sensitise and familiarise them with NAB and their activities. Students of class 4 visited their ‘Talking Book Center,’ where books are transcribed as audiobooks for the benefit of blind students. JML students performed songs and read poetry to the visually-impaired children, and in return, they entertained them by playing the piano, reading a portion from one of their books in Braille, solving arithmetic problems, and other activities.

Jasudben ML School is a co-ed school affiliated to Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). It is managed by Gujarat Research Society. “The school believes that rote learning alone cannot effectively convey education. It must incorporate principles with research and hands-on learning. JML school emphasises that education includes preparing kids to maintain a solid foundation despite coming from a wealthy family,” says the school’s website. The school is currently being led by Damayanti Bhattacharya.

One of the teachers at the NAB explained how visually-impaired people utilise the red and white stick and how books in Braille are produced. The primary wing children were successful in raising about Rs 38,940 for NAB. It was an excellent learning opportunity for the children at JML School that raised their understanding of the difficulties faced by youngsters with disabilities.

“All the JML school students are extremely well-behaved and well-mannered. This is a very special day for our visually impaired students because the first time sighted students performed for them. They all were very happy and surprised by the performance. Thank you Jasudben ML School & Bloomingdales Pre-Primary for this wonderful initiative,” remarked Khunda Khopade, Manager of the Department, Finance Raising Committee at the NAB.

Neha Srivastava, Headmistress of Primary Wing– Jasudben ML School, said, “The moment we stepped into the school, the warmth and vitality of the youngsters surrounded us. Whether it was their music, reading, math or writing class or the divine moments shared in the assembly hall, every moment highlighted their complete involvement and robust enthusiasm in executing their duties, accompanied by a smile on their lips.”
