How to prepare for KVPY 2018 - Preparation Strategy

One must not forget that all four subjects – Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology are equally important and the hopes of cracking the KVPY exam can easily get shattered if any one of them is neglected. A healthy preparation strategy of KVPY 2018 must include - a disciplined study routine, continuous revisions and regular practice of previous years’ question papers.

Preparation for KVPY: Study routine

One must formulate a well-planned study routine to ensure that an appropriate amount of time is set aside for each subject.

Study Hours: Devote about 12 hours each day to studies interspersed with small breaks for an ideal study routine. Continuous studies will help KVPY aspirants regularize study schedule and reduce stress.

Dividing the time: Divide the study hours between the revision of KVPY 2018 syllabus, KVPY question paper practise and analysis of errors.

Study Material: Students should go through NCERT books till class 10, 11, 12 and prescribed books for 1st year of undergraduation (as applicable) which contain effective and in-depth knowledge of every topic. Besides these, they can go for revision notes and coaching modules if any.

Stress Busters: While preparing for KVPY SX, SB/SA streams, limit the presence of distractions like social media, games, etc. Use these only either as means for refreshment or as stress busters. One must also keep time for light physical exercises like yoga or meditation to reduce fatigue and remain calm and fresh.

Preparation for KVPY – Plan your revision

Previous Years’ Question papers: The trick of a well-planned KVPY 2018 preparation strategy lies in figuring the right revision strategy. Candidates should download and practise as many KVPY question papers of previous years to analyse KVPY exam pattern and know the level and types of different questions. Giving mock test of KVPY is also very beneficial for KVPY aspirants as it lets one check one’s performance from time to time.

Track your time: One can also keep a note of time while solving papers to simulate the real exam situation. Doing this will acclimatize your body clock with the exam day timings and attune one’s alertness and concentration levels accordingly. The KVPY exam for SA stream will be held between 9:30-12:30 hours while that for Stream SB/SX will be held between 13:00-15:00 hours.

Performance Analysis: Analysis of score in mock tests during revision helps to know the strong and weak areas. Candidates must take notes of weak areas and work on them. Also keep a note of recurring mistakes and go through them one week before the exam so that they do not get repeated during KVPY 2018.
