Pros and Cons of CGPA

The CGPA assessment system has its own set of pros and cons. While many education boards in India are frequently adopting this CGPA evaluation scheme, students should know about the merits and demerits of this evaluation system.

Benefits/Advantages of CGPA Scheme

  • CGPA emphasizes holistic development in academics instead of forcing a student to participate in a mad rat race of obtaining perfect scores.

  • These days, students are excessively burdened with performance pressure in exams. As CGPA system does not focus on exact scores obtained, Hence, it reduces the performance pressure among students.

  • CGPA system also brings benefits for educators, as it gets easier to classify students for example, Average, great, and beneath average ones. Educators can take necessary measures to help students improve their performance.

  • CGPA eliminates competition among students which can act as a healthy motivation for students instead of getting demoralised by comparisons drawn.

Drawbacks/Disadvantages of CGPA Scheme

  • The actual ability of a student cannot be assessed since CGPA score does not provide exact scores.

  • It may eliminate even healthy competition among students, thereby making them not strive harder to achieve their true potential.

  • Since precise scores are not mentioned, judging students' achievements may be solely based on grades rather than their actual accomplishments.
