The Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) has certain passing criteria for students appearing in the MBOSE 10th and 12th examinations. Students must score a minimum of 30% marks aggregate and in each subject to pass the MBOSE exam. The examination will be conducted for a total of 100 marks. The MBOSE SSLC and HSSLC exam will be divided into two parts, theory paper and practical paper. Students have to score Meghalaya Board pass marks in both papers separately.
The Meghalaya board conducted the MBOSE SSLC exams from February 10 to 25, 2025, while the MBOSE HSSLC exams were held from February 18 to March 19, 2025. Most of the MBOSE theory papers will carry 80 marks in total, while the remaining 20 marks will be assigned to the practical/internal assessment. As per the Meghalaya board, students will be required to score passing marks in all six subjects in the MBOSE SSLC examination from the academic year 2026-27. This change will apply to students currently studying in class 8 or lower. Below, we have provided the MBOSE SSLC passing marks for all the subjects.

The MBOSE HSSLC exam was held for a total of 100 marks. The exam was divided into two parts, a theory paper and a practical/ internal assessment paper. Passing marks are to be scored separately in theory and practice.

If a student who appeared at the MBOSE HSSLC exam 2025 scores 80% or above in the examination will be given a star mark (*). It indicates that the student has a score of 80% or more in aggregate. To get a star mark, students have to score at least 400 marks in aggregate in the Science and Commerce stream while for the Vocational stream, the aggregate mark for getting a star mark is 640 marks.
At first, students must quickly go through the MBOSE SSLC syllabus and MBOSE HSSLC syllabus thoroughly to learn about the topics that will be covered in the examination.
After that, they can start solving MBOSE previous years’ question papers and sample papers to improve their problem-solving skills and time management.
They must start preparing chapters with high mark weightage.
Use short notes or class notes for quick revisions.
Avoid learning new topics at the last minute as it can create confusion.
Stay calm and relaxed to avoid stress.
To pass the MBOSE SSLC examination, students must score a minimum of 30% marks in aggregate and in each subject separately.
The MBOSE examination was conducted for a total of 100 marks, which were further divided into two parts, theory and practical. If you have failed some subjects in the MBOSE HSSLC exam, then you will be eligible to appear for a compartment exam. This is an exam that is meant for those who have failed in one or two papers of the HSSLC exam.
What happens:
Compartment Exam: In this case, you would have to appear for the compartment exam in the failed subject(s).
Re-evaluation: As a matter of fact, in certain cases, you may also apply for re-evaluation of your answer scripts.
Passing Criterion: You have to garner the passing marks in the compartment exam in order to clear the subject.

Hello student,
No. You cannot join College without clearing that one subject in which you failed. To get into College you need to clear that subject in HSSCL.
Within few months they will conduct the exam and results will be declared and later only you can join College. So, till then prepare well for that subject and try to clear it. After clearing that subject you can join Colleges based on the eligibility criteria they have and if you fulfil it.
