Bishop Cotton School (BCS), Shimla, recently hosted a Hope Foundation Event for the cancer patients of the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC). A multi-faith service in Hindi and English was organised whereby junior school boys put together prayers and songs of praise for the cancer patients. The students also staged a mini-festival with different games where the patients could participate and earn prizes.

Bishop Cotton School (BCS) is a boys' school that is associated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE). Bishop George Edward Lynch Cotton started the school in 1859, and it is situated in the midst of the Shimla Hills. According to Bishop Cotton School's (BSC) official website, the institution has a lengthy history that dates back more than 150 years. It is one of the first "public schools" in India and one of the oldest boys' boarding institutions in all of Asia. Headmaster Matthew John is currently in charge of the school. "Bishop Cotton School seeks to reach and sustain the greatest degree of excellence in its curriculum of whole education, equipping men rooted in India's tradition to live as committed and devoutly decent people who positively contribute to society."

Bishop Cotton School (BCS): Other Achievements

Bishop Cotton School (BCS), Shimla, recently won the Inter-School Football competition organised by St Edward’s School, Shimla. A total of 14 teams participated in the three-day inter-school football tournament. Participating boys from Bishop Cotton School (BCS), Shimla were individually honoured for their performances. Isaac and Rehan, two of the participating students from BCS Shimla, won the ‘Best Player of The Tournament Award’ and ‘Best Midfielder Award’ respectively. Staff and management of Bishop Cotton School (BCS), Shimla congratulated the players and their coach, Gurpreet Singh for their dedication and hardwork.

The idea for the school to conduct an Hope Foundation Event that would lift the spirits of those with cancer was put forth by Sarbjeet Singh Bobby, who manages a Roti Bank for the underprivileged in the city of Shimla. BCS Director Simon Weale commented on the occasion, "Cottonians made us all proud as they sang lovely songs of praise, played music in the band, danced the Nati with the patients, and acted as waiters serving food. Thanks must go to all involved in this joyful occasion, especially Sarbjeet Bobby, our BCS Chaplain, music director, and band members.”
