Careers360: When did you start your KVPY preparation? Did you join any Coaching Institute?

Niyati Mehta: I started preparing for KVPY two weeks prior to the Stage 1 exam and did not prepare for stage 2 (Interview). I continued my JEE preparation and gave KVPY along the way. The syllabus for both exams is almost similar. I had joined Allen Career Institute

Careers360: Are you a PCM student? If yes, how did you prepare for Biology?

Niyati Mehta: Yes, I am a PCM student. For the KVPY SA exam, I revised all the syllabus of class 10th Biology from NCERT.

Careers360: How did you come to know about KVPY?

Niyati Mehta: I came to know about KVPY from Allen coaching institute and other institutes advertisements.

Careers360: What were your study schedule and exam day strategy?

Niyati Mehta: I attempted 2 marks question first and later 1 marks questions. I attempted Biology and Chemistry first followed by Physics and Maths. I use to attend coaching classes for 5 hours and in self-study, I use to solve the previous year question paper.

Careers360: Which is your favorite subject and which books did you follow?

Niyati Mehta: I referred only NCERT books and solved previous year question papers as I didn't have much time to prepare. My favorite subject is Physics.

Careers360: How important do you feel mock tests are and why? Is it true that if one solves the KVPY question papers, there is a good chance of cracking the exam successfully?

Niyati Mehta: I practiced previous year question papers of the last 3-4 years. They helped me a lot as they gave an idea about the exam pattern. I was able to find some questions which were not there in KVPY 2019 syllabus. So, I took help from my institute’s teachers and Internet sources

Careers360: What’s your KVPY Interview experience and what were the questions?

Niyati Mehta: Around 6-7 faculty members were there in panel. The interview included conceptual questions. Equal weightage was given to all the topics. They started questioning about Physics followed by Chemistry

Careers360: Share some KVPY exam preparation tips for future aspirants?

Niyati Mehta: No special preparation is required for KVPY. Aspirants who are preparing for the JEE exam can easily crack KVPY. Some basic conceptual clarity is required.

Questions related to KVPY

Showing 742 out of 742 Questions

Hi, Im in class 11. My questions are: 1. Due to Covid-19 will the Aptitude test for KVPY be held after November this year? 2. How many students are selected after the Aptitude test and Interview round? 3. If I score a bit above the passing marks, will I be called for the interview?? Help plz.

Smeet Almeida 26th May, 2020

Greetings, aspirant!

The KVPY examination proceeds in two levels. The first level is the aptitude test and any student who meets the eligibility criteria can appear for this exam.

The second level is the interview round which selects candidates based on their performance in the previous round. The selection process to shortlist the candidates is not always predetermined and no fixed percentage as a selection criterion is given.

As of now, no fixed dates for the examination are given.

However, tentative dates suggest that the first level examination will be held in November, 2020 and the interview round might be conducted as late as January, 2021.

Hope this information helps

Best of luck!!

I am a 11th std student and Ill be giving Kvpy SA , Ive heard electrostatics is an important chapter for KVPY but However its in 12th std I wont be able to study it complete therefore please suggest me topics in electrostatics that I should study for KVPY SA stream

pritamsingh5798 26th May, 2020

Heh there

Electrostatics is a very important chapter. In it for kvpy you can study

1. Calculation of electric field and potential of different bodies.

2. They may ask you to find electric field and potential at a point due to an unsymmetrical body so do it.

3. Capacitance which includes dielectrics and different cases of finding capacitance.

4. Dipole is very important.

5. Gauss law and coulomb's law is very important.

Good luck

I am a class 11 student , I am preparing for KVPY and Ive heard Ray optics is an important chapter for KVPY but its in class 12 , so it is not possible for me to cover whole chapter so please tell , which topics in ray optics should I study for KVPY ?

Aastha jain 16th May, 2020

Ray optics is a fairly easy chapter, even with respect to class 12th Physics. But, some important topics include refraction, reflection and the natural phenomena. What I would suggest you to do is, look at past year KVPY questions from the chapter, and analyse for yourself. Because all the topics are related, you might have to go through everything once.

There are also some examination that students are normally encouraged in few schools like NTSE, KVPY etc. Do you actually follow encourage the students to take NTSE examination, KVPY examination & prepare them for that?

We do a lot & encourage the children participating in NTSE & other examination even if children are prepared, We do provide the children support also but not for everybody, We make it optional for students those who want to appear such examination. There is not structured programme for it but we do offer to support the children those who are preparing for the examination. At higher level we also extend for the support of SAT examination. We do have NDA academy & coaching support. But we want to bring up leaders coming up with lot of values that’what the future of the society that we encourage the students go for such kind of training.

where I can study this chapter"Number theory" in class 11 people say it is very important chapter for KVPY but there is no such chapter in our text book , please help

Shareef 10th May, 2020
First point is number theory will be regarded as a chapter in only few book's where in other books it gets mixed with other chapters. So, the concepts included in number theory are
  • primes
  • composites
  • multiples
  • factor's
  • number sequences
  • number properties and
  • rules for divisibility
You can practice the question based on these concepts. 2nd point there's no topic or chapter in the  syllabus that says  number theory is important, maybe you will get few questions regarding them. Here is the link where you will get the complete syllabus for the examination
