Harshil Vagadia: I feel very delighted that I achieved a great rank in KVPY. It is good to see that all the hard work is paid off.

Careers360: Tell us something about yourself.

Harshil Vagadia: I am from Rajkot, Gujarat. I studied for 2 years at Kota where I was preparing for JEE. I have completed my 12th grade this year. Apart from studies, I like Computer programming. I also like reading novels. My father is a businessman and my mother is in the educational field.

Careers360: Are you a PCM student? If yes, how did you prepare for Biology?

Harshil Vagadia: Yes, I am a PCM student. In KVPY SX there is an option to choose maths or biology. So I attempted the maths section and left biology.

Careers360: How did you come to know about KVPY?

Harshil Vagadia: I came to know about KVPY from discussions among students. I heard that it is a national level exam and decided to attempt it. I gave KVPY in both 11th and 12th grade.

Careers360: When did you start your KVPY preparation? Did you join any Coaching Institute?

Harshil Vagadia: I did not explicitly prepare for KVPY. I continued my JEE preparation and gave KVPY along the way. The syllabus for both exams is almost similar. I had joined Allen Career Institute, Kota

Careers360: Which books you preferred to prepare for KVPY and which is your Favorite subject?

Harshil Vagadia: I solved the KVPY module provided by my coaching classes (Allen Institute). My favorite subject is Physics.

Careers360: Did you practice the previous year KVPY question papers? How did it help you?

Harshil Vagadia: I solved the question papers of the past 3 years for practice. They helped me tremendously as they gave an idea about exam pattern and time management.

Careers360: What was your exam day strategy? How did you prepare for it on a daily basis?

Harshil Vagadia: I decided to attempt section 1 first then section 2. I attempted PCM in section 1 and PC in section 2. The number of questions is more so one needs to be fast and accurate. Also, the computers can be slow during online exams so one needs to be prepared for that. The best way to practice this is to solve the past years papers.

Careers360: Share your experience of the interview process. How many members were there in the panel? What kind of questions did they ask you?

Harshil Vagadia: The interview panel generally consists of 7-8 members. They asked conceptual questions which usually don’t involve much calculation. The topics were the ones I had written in the self-appraisal form. All the subjects were given equal weightage. The interview lasted for 20 minutes. All the questions were academic and no personal questions were asked.

Careers360: Share some KVPY exam preparation tips for future aspirants?

Harshil Vagadia: In KVPY, a lot of conceptual questions are asked so students must practice them instead of rot learning. During the KVPY interview, it is important to be confident. Major weightage is of aptitude test so students must focus on that. Best of Luck to all future KVPY aspirants.

Reading success stories of others might be fascinating but following the same path shown is challenging. If a student is determined to achieve a goal then every challenge becomes temporary. Hard work always pays off, remember that. Also, read KVPY preparation tips.

Hi, Im in class 11. My questions are: 1. Due to Covid-19 will the Aptitude test for KVPY be held after November this year? 2. How many students are selected after the Aptitude test and Interview round? 3. If I score a bit above the passing marks, will I be called for the interview?? Help plz.

Smeet Almeida 26th May, 2020

Greetings, aspirant!

The KVPY examination proceeds in two levels. The first level is the aptitude test and any student who meets the eligibility criteria can appear for this exam.

The second level is the interview round which selects candidates based on their performance in the previous round. The selection process to shortlist the candidates is not always predetermined and no fixed percentage as a selection criterion is given.

As of now, no fixed dates for the examination are given.

However, tentative dates suggest that the first level examination will be held in November, 2020 and the interview round might be conducted as late as January, 2021.

Hope this information helps

Best of luck!!

Heh there

Electrostatics is a very important chapter. In it for kvpy you can study

1. Calculation of electric field and potential of different bodies.

2. They may ask you to find electric field and potential at a point due to an unsymmetrical body so do it.

3. Capacitance which includes dielectrics and different cases of finding capacitance.

4. Dipole is very important.

5. Gauss law and coulomb's law is very important.

Good luck

I am a class 11 student , I am preparing for KVPY and Ive heard Ray optics is an important chapter for KVPY but its in class 12 , so it is not possible for me to cover whole chapter so please tell , which topics in ray optics should I study for KVPY ?

Aastha jain 16th May, 2020

Hi

Ray optics is a fairly easy chapter, even with respect to class 12th Physics. But, some important topics include refraction, reflection and the natural phenomena. What I would suggest you to do is, look at past year KVPY questions from the chapter, and analyse for yourself. Because all the topics are related, you might have to go through everything once.

There are also some examination that students are normally encouraged in few schools like NTSE, KVPY etc. Do you actually follow encourage the students to take NTSE examination, KVPY examination & prepare them for that?

We do a lot & encourage the children participating in NTSE & other examination even if children are prepared, We do provide the children support also but not for everybody, We make it optional for students those who want to appear such examination. There is not structured programme for it but we do offer to support the children those who are preparing for the examination. At higher level we also extend for the support of SAT examination. We do have NDA academy & coaching support. But we want to bring up leaders coming up with lot of values that’what the future of the society that we encourage the students go for such kind of training.

where I can study this chapter"Number theory" in class 11 people say it is very important chapter for KVPY but there is no such chapter in our text book , please help

Shareef 10th May, 2020
Hello,
.
First point is number theory will be regarded as a chapter in only few book's where in other books it gets mixed with other chapters. So, the concepts included in number theory are
  • primes
  • composites
  • multiples
  • factor's
  • number sequences
  • number properties and
  • rules for divisibility
.
You can practice the question based on these concepts. 2nd point there's no topic or chapter in the  syllabus that says  number theory is important, maybe you will get few questions regarding them. Here is the link where you will get the complete syllabus for the examination
