India is taking big steps in space study with relentless Chandrayaan and Aditya L1 missions . The Chandryan on the one hand studies the thermal properties of the lunar surface near the southern region Aditya L1 will study the Sun's upper atmospheric layer.

Students have been awestruck about this achievement of our scientist at ISRO? To keep this interest in space science alive schools and other educational institutions Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) the national agency of space programmes of has been conducting various programmes for the benefit of young students.

ISRO Activities For School Students

ISRO is keeping up with sustainable practices of keeping future generations ready for space exploration. Some of the activities conducted by ISRO to equip school kids with knowledge about space science are:

ISRO STEM Portal

ISRO provides a range of opportunities for students interested in STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)fields related to space. The list includes online certified courses and interactive video sessions with space experts. Students also can carve creative and innovative skills by sharing imaginative space ideas. They get access to a virtual museum and a platform for innovative student projects like apps and research papers. The students can further take a space quiz to test their knowledge. The portal also features educational videos, a summary of ISRO missions, a space dictionary, and more.

Yuvika

ISRO's “YUVIKA” or “Young Scientist Programme” is an introduction session about space sciences for school kids especially those in rural areas. This space adventure gives a glimpse of emerging space technology to young children. This program is designed to intrigue the interest of students in STEM-based careers.

UNNATI

Unispace Nanosatellite Assembly & Training or UNNATI training program invites students, engineers, scientists, and officials from different countries to come together and master the art of assembling and testing nanosatellites. It's all about boosting space capabilities and sharing knowledge on a global level.

School Bhuvan

School Bhuvan is a portal that provides map-based learning to help students understand India’s environment and the natural resources present in the country. It also introduces sustainable development steps available to take care of them.

Student Satellite Programme

ISRO encourages students to join in on their missions and learn about space science. The programme keeps the future generation ready with expertise in space technology. Many schools have joined these programmes. To make sure everything runs smoothly in universities, especially when it comes to student satellites, ISRO has created a system as part of the Indian remote sensing program. This system helps students with their space projects, making it easier for them to learn and create cool things.

Student Internships

ISRO offers students of a university or a college associated with the organisation several roles. However, the interested student candidate has to write an application to the manager of the Human Resources department of a specific ISRO centre.

Facility Visits

ISRO can facilitate faculty visits to colleges around the country provided with prior permission from certain points of contact with the list of students and teachers present during the visit.

Schools and colleges can also conduct certain activities to keep the interest of students in space activities some of them are listed below:

Space Research Projects

A space research project ignites a young mind towards space exploration and celestial objects. For instance, if a student gets a project on studying phases of the moon. They learn about the moon's cycle, which has eight phases like the new moon and full Moon. This helps them understand how the moon moves around Earth and its connection to the sun.

Rocket Designing Activities

A rocket-building workshop is an engaging and educational experience where students are introduced to the intricacies of building and designing a rocket. During these hands-on sessions, participants learn about the principles of propulsion, aerodynamics, and stability while constructing their own rockets.

Telescope Observation

Telescope observation can be a thrilling experience to learn about celestial objects. Students learn about the neighbouring planets, stars and even distant galaxies. The observation builds a deeper understanding of the universe in a student's mind. Students can do solar observations in terms of solar eclipse, and planet spotting while learning about how a telescope works.

Space Exhibition

The best way to learn is something on your own. Space exhibitions give a platform for students to showcase their knowledge in the subject. Such activities not only enhance the knowledge of the participants but also of those students who visit as audience. For example, if a primary school student makes a model of a solar system for the exhibition he understands the concept of planets and their orbiting around the star i.e. the sun. Even the kids visiting them get an idea of what a solar system is, and what it looks like.

These activities are your launchpad to understanding the universe. These are the kinds of experiences that can light up your curiosity and set you on a journey of discovery that's out of this world!
