When you are starting a new class, more than studies you are probably worried about making the right impression. But now as everything goes back to pre-pandemic mode, train yourself to follow the routine to the T.

Here is a five-point plan which will help students make a good first impression on the first day of their class:

Punctuality Matters

As an adolescent, you are going to be expected to take-on certain responsibilities upon yourself. Being in class on time is one of them. Punctuality sets the tone of how your approach to the academic session is going to be. It also communicates to your teachers and peers that you understand the value of time and respect school rules.

Appearances

The idiom “Appearances can be deceptive” may be true, but as a student of any school or college, you are expected to be mindful about how you look. Wearing clean and ironed uniforms, with nails trimmed, a proper haircut for boys and hair neatly tied for girls is a must for students. A disciplined student who follows school rules diligently is loved, appreciated and respected by teachers, peers and other ancillary staff members.

Converse With Confidence

After two years of online learning, the confidence of speaking in a large crowd can be intimidating for some. Remember a little nerves don’t harm anyone especially if you aid yourself with tips on how to overcome the fear of public speaking. So when you are asked to introduce yourself, do it with a clear voice, with a confident mind and a genuine smile.

Remember Please And Thank-you

As young children you must often be reminded by your mom or teacher to practice saying Thank you! Please. You are at the cusp of adulthood and this is the right time to train yourself in understanding that being polite helps in the long term. At school these magic words can help gain friendships and develop an impression that you are a dependable, well-mannered student.

Avoid Pranks or Bullying

Bullying or ragging is a strict no-no. Schools and colleges have very stern guidelines about bullying. You also cannot be a cause of nuisance in class. None of that chalk-throwing, paper plane flying pranks will be excused. Such behaviour is unappealing and you will have spoilt your reputation for good.

Avoid Boasting

Academic successes, or extra curricular achievements should be told by others, you do not need to boast about it in your conversations with peers or teachers. A mention of your achievements during your introduction is good enough. As an adolescent you need to understand that humility goes a long way in helping cultivate long-term positive connections with people, especially seniors and peers. If you have specialised in any kind of extra-curricular activities such as singing, recitation etc., you can display it during interactive sessions. Such confident display of your talents amongst your peers can catapult you to being a popular student amongst the student community as well as the faculty of your institution.

So, on the first day of a new class, don't be nervous, be confident and show that you are up for the challenges that come with higher classes and bigger responsibilities.
