The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education, Dharamshala, has implemented the Scheme of two board examinations for Class 10 from the academic session 2025-26. As per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the HP Board decided to implement the two-time board exams policy for the 10th Class. All students are allowed to take board exams on up to two occasions during any given school year, one will be the main examination and one for improvement. There will be two exams for Matriculation during each academic year. The HP Board 10th exam for the 1st time will be held during February-March. This will be known as the “Main Examination”. The 2nd exam will be conducted during June-July and is known as the “Improvement exam”. Students must appear in the “Main exam” mandatorily. Based on the main examination (1st exam), the HP Board 10th result, students will be divided into three distinct categories.

From the academic year 2025-26, the HP Board will implement the scheme of two-time board exams for Class 10 under the main exam and improvement exam. Check out the important points below to understand the scheme better.
Based on the HPBOSE result for Class 10, students will be segregated into three distinct categories. Check out the categories mentioned below.
Essential Improvement - This category will include students who have passed at least three subjects out of the five compulsory subjects. They will be allowed to appear in the 2nd exam, i.e., the improvement examination. If candidates qualify for both subjects in the 2nd exam, he/she will be declared as passed. If they qualify for only one subject in the 2nd exam, they will be placed under the compartment category. Students will be placed in the “Essential Repeat” category if they don’t qualify for both subjects.
Optional Improvement - Any students who have passed the main examination (1st exam) in all compulsory subjects and wish to improve his/her performance are allowed to appear in only three subjects out of the five compulsory subjects.
Essential Repeat Category - Students who fail to qualify in at least three subjects out of five are not allowed to take the 2nd exam. They will be placed in the Essential Repeat category. Such candidates will be allowed to appear during the main exam in the next academic session.
Note: Students whose result in the main exam is compartment, they will be allowed to appear in the second exam under the compartment category.
In case of the subject with practicals, marks obtained during the main examination will be counted for result preparation. No separate practical exam will be conducted during the improvement exam.
In case a student failed to give a practical exam during the main examination due to reasons beyond his/her control, he/she will be allowed to appear in the practical on marking written request to the Chairman and on furnishing adequate evidence.
Both the main and improvement examinations will be conducted in full HP Board 10th syllabus prescribed for the year. The scheme of studies and examination will remain the same.
The results of all students will be declared as per the examination bylaws.
The main examination (first exam) result will be declared in the month of April/May.
The result of the second examination will be declared in the month of July/August.
Performance of the main exam will be made available in Digi-Locker. This can be used for admission to Class XI if the students do not wish to appear in the improvement exam.
A passing document will be issued to students only after the declaration of the second exam results.
The best of the two exam marks/results will be awarded to students.

Revaluation applications were accepted from May 16 to June 7.
