CISCE has released the Physics Specimen Papers 2026 for the guidance of ICSE Class 10 and ISC Class 12 students in board exam preparation. These papers are a reflection of the latest exam pattern, marking scheme, and question styles that may appear in the final exams. The Class 10 paper mainly focuses on core concepts, numericals, and application-based questioning from topics like Light, Sound, Electricity, and Modern Physics, while the Class 12 paper deals with higher-order numerical derivations, useful problems based on practicals, and conceptual understanding from a Mechanics, Optics, Electrostatics, and Modern Physics standpoint. For both levels, questions based on diagrams, experiments, and multi-concept questions are assessed for accuracy as well as understanding. Working through these CISCE specimen papers 2026 helps students manage time, revise concepts, and increase their self-confidence for the actual board exam.

Here is the ISC 12 Physics Specimen Physics paper pattern 2026.
Section | Marks per Question | No. of Questions | Total Marks | Question Type | Nature of Questions |
A | 1 | 14 | 14 | MCQ + Very Short | Recall, Concept Check, Analysis |
B | 2 | 7 | 14 | Short Answer | Direct application, simple derivations, small numericals |
C | 3 | 9 | 27 | Medium Answer | Derivations, multi-step problems, reasoning |
D | 5 | 3 | 15 | Long Answer | Multi-part questions, complex numericals, concept integration |
Total | — | 33 | 70 | — | Covers all difficulty levels |
Question contained in the paper, based on practical application and problem-solving, is provided as a measure of proficiency in the papers tested on the concepts and their practical use.
However, a large number of questions are based on real life, such as those on missile fibre optics, echo-based measurements, and even pulleys, helping to connect Physics to everyday lives.
Some of the questions combine different formulas and concepts from different chapters and test how well the students can link concepts and apply them together as they settle on one solution.
Represents a strong focus being placed on interpreting ray diagrams, circuit diagrams, graphs, and experimental setups for testing analytical thinking and visual representation skills.
The question paper contains MCQs, fill-ups, assertion-reasoning, match-the-following, short, and long-form structured answer types for evaluation in a holistic manner.
Among the important topics included are Light, Electricity, Heat, Sound, Modern Physics, Work and Energy, and Machines, which together ensure balanced coverage of the syllabus.
Most of the questions are laboratory-based experiment-related or measurement-based, thus enhancing the linkage of theory and practical work.

Hey Niharika,
Getting admission in IITs or NITs doesn’t depend only on your Class 12 percentage. The main criteria is your JEE performance. For IITs, you need to clear JEE Advanced after qualifying JEE Main. For NITs, admission is through JEE Main rank.
As per eligibility, you must score at least 75% in Class 12 (for General/OBC) or be in the top 20 percentile of your board. Since you got 74.8% overall, it’s slightly less than 75, but if your board’s top 20 percentile cutoff is lower, you may still be eligible. In that case, you can sit for JEE counseling.
So, your admission chance depends mainly on:
1. Your JEE Main/Advanced rank.
2. Whether your board percentile rule covers your marks.
So, If you clear these, yes, you can get into an IIT/NIT depending on your JEE score. Otherwise, you might need to consider other engineering colleges.
To appear in the JEE Mains exams, the students must have qualified Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects, and to appear in the JEE Advanced , the students must have attained 75% (for General/OBC) in Class 12.
As you are a student from the ICSE board , the percentage is calculated based on the best of 5 subjects, and based on this rule, your percentage is not up to 75%. Therefore, you are not eligible to appear in the JEE examination.
