Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) Overview 2023 - Under the umbrella of the PM Scholarship Scheme 2023, the government has introduced a number of scholarship schemes. Types of PMSS Scholarship Scheme 2023

Every year, scholarships are given to deserving students from all around the nation. Several scholarships included in the Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) are:

PMSS Scholarship 2023 by Ministry of Minority Affairs

The Ministry of Minority Affairs provides two types of scholarships under the Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme 2023. These scholarships are namely, “Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme for Minorities” and “Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme for Minorities”.

  1. Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme for Minorities - Highlights

  • In June 2006, the Prime Minister launched a New 15-Point Programme for the Welfare of Minorities.

  • Pre-matric level scholarships will encourage minority community parents to enrol their children in classes 1 to 10.

  • Students who received at least 50% on their previous final exam will be eligible for qualifying the PMSS scholarship selection criteria.

  • The combined annual income of their guardians or parents should not be more than Rs. 1 lakh.

  • 30 lakh scholarships are expected to be awarded as "Fresh" Scholarships in addition to Renewal Scholarships.

  • Each minority group in a State/UT has a 30% scholarship designated for female students; in the event that female students are not available, the scholarship is transferable to male students from that community.

  • For renewal of scholarship, applicants should receive a 50% or higher in their previous year's exams (at the same institute and in the same course).

  • Candidates can fill out the applications online at the National Scholarship Portal's (NSP) portal: scholarships.gov.in.

The distribution and rate of the scholarships will be as follows:

  1. Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme for Minorities - Highlights

  • In June 2006, the Prime Minister also launched another New 15-Point Program for the Welfare of Minorities.

  • The goal of this scholarship is to give deserving students from economically weaker sections better opportunities for higher education.

  • It will also include technical and vocational courses, including Polytechnics, for classes 11 and 12 students.

  • Scholarships will be given to students who received at least 50% or equal marks in their previous final exams for PMSS scholarship eligibility.

  • Students whose parents' or guardians' combined annual income is not more than Rs. 2 lakh are eligible for this scholarship.

  • 5 lakh scholarships are expected to be awarded as "Fresh" Scholarships in addition to Renewal Scholarships.

  • Each minority group in a State/UT has a 30% scholarship for female students; in the event that female students are not available, the scholarship is transferable to male students from that community.

  • For renewal of scholarship, applicants should receive a 50% or higher in their previous year's exams (at the same Institute and in the same course).

For Class 11 & 12 including Tech. & Voc. Course*:

Rs. 380/- per month for Hosteller & Rs. 230/- per month for Day Scholar

For Courses other than Tech. & Prof. courses at UG & PG level*:

Rs. 570/- per month for Hosteller & Rs. 300/- per month for Day Scholar

For M.Phil & PhD*:

Rs. 1,200/- per month for Hosteller & Rs. 550/- per month for Day Scholar

*For 10 months in an academic year.

PMSS Scholarship 2023 by Ministry of Home Affairs

The Ministry of Home Affairs also organises two types of scholarships under the Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme 2023. These scholarships are namely “Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme For Central Armed Police Forces And Assam Rifles” and “Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme For Wards Of States/Uts Police Personnel Martyred During Terror/Naxal Attacks”.

PMSS For Dependent Wards and Widows of CAPFs & AR personnel and the dependent wards of States/UTs Police Personnel who are martyred during terrorist or Naxal attacks

  • The National Defense Fund-sponsored Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) was established beginning with the 2006–2007 academic year in order to support higher technical and professional education for dependent wards and widows of Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles (CAPFs & AR) personnel.

  • In 2019 this scheme was extended for the dependent wards of States/UTs Police Personnel who are martyred during terrorist or Naxal attacks.

  • Total 2,000 Scholarships (equal for boys and girls), plus renewal cases from prior years, are available for the children of CAPFs and Assam Rifles.

  • A total of 500 scholarships( 250 for boys and 250 for girls) will be awarded to the children of State Police employees who died in terrorist or Naxal attacks.

  • Rs. 3000/-per month for girls and Rs. 2500/- per month for boys will be paid to each for the duration of the respective course.

  • Honourable Prime Minister will also write personal letters to each applicant chosen under this category.

  • A candidate must obtain at least 60% in 10+2 / Diploma / Graduation, in order to qualify for the PMSS scholarship eligibility.

  • If the candidate passed the class 12 CBSE exam, the best five marks out of 500 will be taken into account for determining eligibility.

  • The following courses are eligible for PMSS: BE, B Tech, BDS, MBBS, B.Ed., BBA, BCA, B Pharma, and B.Sc (Nursing, Agriculture, etc.).

  • Interested candidates can submit their PMSS scholarship applications online at the National Scholarship Portal's (NSP) portal: scholarships.gov.in.

Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme For RPF/RPSF - Highlights

  • The then-honorable prime ministers of India announced the Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) on August 15, 2005, under the authority of the National Defense Fund.

  • This scholarship supports dependent wards and widows of former or current RPF/RPSF members who want to pursue higher technical and professional education.

  • A total of 150 students will be given scholarships for the current academic year. 75 out of the total number of scholarships are set aside for female applicants.

  • Eligible programmes that fall under the scholarship are BE, B.Tech, BDS, MBBS, BEd, BBS, BCA, MCA, B.Pharma, and other professional degree programmes.

  • Master's degree courses are not eligible for PMSS except for MBA and MCA.

  • Students must have at least a 60% average in 12th grade, a diploma, or a degree in order to avail the scholarship benefits.

  • The amount of scholarship would be as follows:

    (i) 2500/- per month for male students
    (ii) 3000/- per month for female students
  • Honorable Prime Minister will also write personal letters to each applicant selected under this category.

  • Interested applicants may submit their PMSS applications online at the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) website: scholarships.gov.in.
