Students are often involved in multiple activities, including the internet, social media, sports, music, study, etc. The COVID pandemic disrupted the offline classroom and pushed it to online mode. Some students are working from home at companies while simultaneously studying. Managing multiple activities effectively is a tough task, and this strengthens the importance of a timetable in student life.
Making a perfect balance between academics and life is quite challenging and stressful for students. They face difficulties in prioritising their non academic activities, i.e. playing games, singing, dancing, watching movies, enjoying themselves with friends and family, earning money, and studying. It is quite stressful for students to complete different tasks, namely assignments, projects, quizzes, question banks, chapter practice problems, etc., on time.
In this article, we will discuss the importance of timetables for students in finding a balance between study and life, as well as some tips for creating a perfect study timetable.
A constructed and organised timetable makes our routine tasks better. Studying becomes more organised, easy, and relaxing after making a timetable. Ancient Indian teacher and philosopher Chanakya, said that one who can’t determine his goals, can not win. Making a timetable means setting a goal that prioritises our activities. Let’s discuss the importance of a timetable for students.
A timetable describes what a particular activity is and when the activity is to be done. Thus, it obligated students to concentrate on that particular activity at that time, and in this way, the study time prevented the wastage of time. In other words, it channels our energy in a specific direction, ultimately, it saves both time and energy as it avoids overlapping and duplicating activities. The study timetable not only emphasises time management but also emphasises self-management. Because it prevents confusion, duplication, unnecessary repetition, and overlapping of the topics.
In the timetable, we have already set a goal or planned an activity. If we continue to complete activities mentioned in the timetable, then we can anticipate ourselves in the future. This means we can calculate where we will stand after a month or year, and how much of the syllabus we will have completed.
Another benefit is that it forces students to study. We are aware that tomorrow’s time has already been allotted to another activity, and if we have not completed today’s activity then it’ll be a pending and can be a burden on tomorrow's tasks. In this way, our time table forces us to complete today’s activity.
Time table regulates what to do next after completing one target, doing this even if we aren't aware that we become disciplined. If a student is able to manage discipline in their study, he becomes more organised in the upcoming life. A body clock gets into our body that regulates different activities like eating, drinking, studying, playing, and sleeping, and according to our activity, it releases the hormone to make our body comfortable with that activity.
The time table gives due attention and emphasis to various activities, topics, and subjects enumerated in it. according to their importance and difficulty level. This is required for detailed and comprehensive coverage of topics and subjects. Students who encounter difficulty in physics or other subjects can schedule more time to get a command of the concepts. There are some topics that are less important, and if we don't have sufficient time, we can ignore them and focus on important topics that have a high weightage in the exam.
A timetable makes us disciplined and it inculcates punctuality, regularity, and steadiness. We become focused on our studies and career. An empty mind is a devil’s workshop. In other words, grass grows naturally in the empty field. As we have already allocated time to activities, we become busy and bad habits do not find space to get in.
When we start to study, an idea pops up in our mind. Let's do this activity for one or five more minutes, and we will start to study after one or five minutes. But after five minutes again, a similar idea pops up. This is procrastination, which is the most resistant in the study. A timetable reminds students again and again to complete the task or activity within a certain time limit and start the next one; thus, a timetable helps students avoid procrastination.
Making balance in study-life means, enjoying our life activities like dancing, singing, playing, learning new things, enjoying ourselves with friends, and family, making family tours, etc., and simultaneously doing great in our studies without bothering about it. A timetable makes us comfortable and makes it easy to enjoy and study. It is entitled to a time slot for life activity and for study as well. we can fix a day to tour with friends and experience natural beauty. We can fix study hours and make calculations. At that time we will be able to achieve our target. We can prioritise the activities according to their importance and hardness and fix the time to cover them. In this way, the timetable is very important for a good study-life balance.
Do you know how to create the best time table for study? Following are some tips for creating a realistic, achievable, and perfect study timetable.
Some students like to study at late night very effectively but others are efficient during the early morning. Students can plan their activities according to their habits. But it is suggested that students start their day with tough topics or weak subjects and switch to mathematics or interesting subjects during the night. Don't make a timetable according to our friend's timetable. Create a timetable that suits our body's functioning (or metabolism) and our learning style.
A time table should be realistic. There should be some gaps for hobbies, sports activities, fun activities with family or friends, etc. Every student has their own abilities and IQ level. Some students take an hour to complete a task, but others can take 2 or 3 hours. According to the capability plan and allotted time for activity, the time limit to complete a task should look real and achievable.
Review the progress on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. According to the achievement, find new techniques so as to maximise efficiency. Apply these new techniques and update the timetable. If a plan is not working, then change the plan but not the goal.
A perfect time table for students is very important, as we have already discussed so many benefits, but following the timetable is also equally important. In the current modern era balancing multiple activities and maintaining a Study-life balance strengthens the importance of timetable for students.
