Bachelor of Design (B.Des) in Fashion Design is an undergraduate fashion design course involving the study of creating original designs in garments, footwear, jewellery, luggage and also a study of the ever-changing trends in the fashion industry and market. The programme includes converting artistic talent and creativity in creating products like clothing, textiles, jewellery, footwear and other accessories. It involves the detailed study of the market trends and related fashion. The duration of the course is usually four years. NID DAT

The Design Aptitude Test (DAT) conducted by NID is a 3 hour duration exam and the total marks of the test is 100 marks. This is a pen and paper based or offline test. NID DAT comprises of both objective as well as subjective questions. 

NIFT

NIFT entrance exam is a national level test that is conducted by National Institute of Fashion Technology for admissions to Bachelor of Design and Bachelor of Fashion Technology programmes offered across 16 NIFT campuses across India. The 3 hour exam is conducted in the month of January every year. Candidates seeking admissions to NIFT B.Des programme are to appear for Creative Ability Test (CAT), General Ability Test (GAT) and situation test. 

AIEED

Arch College of Design & Business conducts AIEED (All India Entrance Examination for Design) for Undergraduate & Postgraduate level courses in Design. The 3 hour exam is conducted in two phases, which are, Series 1 and Series 2. Total marks one can secure in the exam is 200. 

SEED

Symbiosis International University conducts Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED) to offer admissions BDes programmes. It is usually conducted in the month of May. Aspirants need to attempt a total of 150 questions in two and a half hour duration. 

AIFD WAT

Army Institute of Fashion & Design (AIFD) conducts Written Admission Test (WAT) every year to provide admission to candidates in 3-year undergraduate design programmes. The three hour exam consists a maximum of 100 marks and carries no negative marking. 

FDDI AIST

Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI) conducts All India Selection Test (AIST) to offer admission in programmes in Footwear, Retail, Design and Leather Accessary Design. The exam conducted in online mode consists of 200 MCQs.

 

Postgraduate degree in Fashion Design

Masters of Design in Fashion Design is a postgraduate fashion design course. The duration of the course is usually two years but it may vary from institute to institute. The course, on its successful completion opens varied employment options for designers. The eligibility is Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with Fashion Designing subjects with 50 percent marks or above. The eligibility criteria varies from one University to another. Many colleges and Universities conduct their own entrance exams and personal interviews to select students.

The three hour exam evaluate candidates on the basis of their Knowledge, Comprehension, Analysis, Creativity and Visualisation abilities. There is no negative marking.
