In addition to the central scholarship schemes, every state government also offers numerous scholarship schemes to encourage children belonging to historically marginalised groups – Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward and Economically Backward Classes (SC, ST, BC, EBC) – and economically weaker sections (EWS) to stay in school or pursue higher education. A large number of scholarships are dedicated to girl students. There are pre and post-matric scholarships; ones that cover education all the way to research; and some specially for those students pursuing professional or technical degrees.
Listed below are the scholarships provided by the Bihar government, West Bengal government and some private organisations, along with the eligibility criteria, benefits and other necessary details.
The government of Bihar provides financial aid to students belonging to SC, ST, OBC and EWS categories. Apart from this, girl students are also given scholarships irrespective of the community they come from. Given below is the list of scholarships and financial assistance given by the government of Bihar.
This scheme was launched by the Bihar government as an initiative to stop child marriage, reduce infant mortality rate and provide financial assistance to girls.

This minority scholarship is meant to support and uplift students belonging to minority communities. Thirty percent of the scholarship slots are reserved for girl students.

The West Bengal government also offers a range of scholarships to students from minority and marginalised communities that are subsumed within larger programmes and schemes such as the Aikyashree scholarships and the Swami Vivekananda Merit-cum-Means Scholarship Scheme (SVMCM), also called the Swami Vivekananda Scholarship. All applications, for SC, ST, OBC and minority scholarships, can be completed online. The processes require a wide variety of documents including domicile, income proof, education certificates and more.
A private scholarship, this is offered by the Birla Foundation. Every year, the scholarship is granted to at least 100 meritorious students.

The government of West Bengal had launched this scholarship for the meritorious students belonging to the economically weaker section of society and not able to fund their education.
Eligibility: Apart from the common eligibility criteria like - the students must be residents of West Bengal and their annual family income should not be more than Rs 2.5 lakhs, there are other specific eligibility criteria as well which are given below.
