Long Speech On Digital India

Digital India is a campaign launched in 2015 by the Government of India to make the policies and services of the government reach every citizen of the country through digital means. It includes improving online infrastructure and internet connectivity. The Digital India campaign has played a considerable role in developing the country’s internet user base.

Background

Digital India was launched by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, on 1 July 2015. The main objectives were to connect rural areas with high-speed internet connection and improve digital literacy among our citizens. The campaign also helped in the successful execution of many other plans, such as the Online National Scholarship Scheme.

Initiatives Launched

Various initiatives have been launched under the Digital India campaign. Some of them are -

MyGov.in | A website to display the matters of policy and governance to the citizens as well as to take their inputs with the help of the National e-Governance plan.

UMANG | A platform that provides access to over 1200 government schemes and services launched in all the states in India in all languages. Users can easily use Aadhaar, DigiLocker, CBSE, and many different government documents and services in one place.

My Story

The Digital India Campaign has helped me many times and made my life easier. When I often forget my wallet, I use google pay which is accepted at every nook and corner of our country. My friends from the USA are even amazed at how deeply online payment has penetrated India. Many people have even stopped carrying cash in big cities. They pay by UPI everywhere. DigiLocker has also helped me many times at traffic checkpoints. Whenever I forget my driving licence or registration paper, I am saved by the app as the documents there are legally valid everywhere. It makes me very happy to see my country becoming technologically advanced daily.

With the help of private entities such as Paytm, Google, and Jio, the campaign of Digital India has made internet accessibility and online payment system using UPI reach their zenith in India. Today, even the local street vendor knows how to take payment online, making India almost paperless. The government is also launching the e-rupee, making the Digital India Campaign even more successful. During the COVID era, online classes were made possible only with the help of the internet. India is now the 2nd largest country with an active internet user base of over 650 million. Hence, Digital India is a very successful campaign and has helped India to rise in technology. Due to this campaign, we are emerging as a global leader in the field of startups and technology.
