Speech is a way to address some ideas and express information to the audience. Speech is a form of communication in the verbal language in a particular dialect or language to communicate with a larger audience. Following steps are involved in making a good speech.
A good speech begins with ideas. You should have a clear-cut picture of the topic you are going to speak about. Take a paper and think about all the ideas you have to say to your listeners about that topic. Write the structure and framework of your speech and the keywords you want to use.
Example | For a speech on Pollution, your keywords should be - Causes, Types, Solutions, Preventive Measures, and Conclusion.
To add weight to your speech, add some facts, numbers and statistics to your speech. It will become more convincing to the listener. Don’t just state plain facts and numbers, put in your own analysis and interpretation of the facts. Make statements around the facts. You can use internet archives, Wikipedia, jstor or physical books to gather information about the given topic. Research your keywords.
Example | for the above-chosen topic i.e., pollution, you may search for types of pollution and Measures taken by the government to curb pollution on the Environment Various authentic website.
After doing the research on the topic and sorting out your own ideas, you finally begin to start the speech writing topic. The writing part of the speech or the structure of the speech can be divided into three further subtopics. You should start with the introduction and then move on to the main body stating the facts and figures and then finally conclude your speech.
You should always begin your speech with a hook - a line to gain the attention and interest of your listeners. Generally, a fact can be used as a starting hook to your speech.
For example | 13000, that’s the number of tiger population present in the world. Today, we are here to talk about what brought this majestic predator’s population to just a few thousand.
After establishing a hook and talking about the topic of your speech you can then move on to introducing yourself to your listeners. You can proceed with the - Greetings ladies and gentlemen, Rishabh this side and today I will be talking about the key factors involved in the sudden decrease of the tiger population in the world.
Body
The main part of your speech is the content of your speech. The body is completely based on the research and solutions you have come up with. You should state the problems of your topic and then move to explain its possible solutions.
Example | If your topic is my favourite teacher, then explain what you like about your favourite teacher, and why this teacher is your favourite. Basically, the body of your speech should answer How, Why, When, and What about your speech topic.
Conclusion
It is also a very important part of your speech. You should try to conclude your speech on a positive and hopeful note.
Example | The Tiger population has recently seen an increase due to various government measures but still public and government cooperation is required to safeguard our national animal.
And then simply say Thank you, everyone, you have been a great listener.
Speech Example
A famous American proverb goes by - "If you can read this, thank a teacher.”
Good morning to everyone who is present here on the auspicious occasion of Teacher’s Day. I feel honoured and obligated to deliver a speech on such an occasion to display my love and respect for our teachers and the importance of this occasion.
Teacher’s Day is celebrated on the 5th of September every year in India. It is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of one of India’s greatest scholars - Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan who was born on 5th September 1888. Dr Radhakrishnan was the first Vice President and the second President of India. But his primary love of teaching students is why we are gathered here to give respect to our teachers.
Teachers are the pillars of society and the makers of future generations. They help us to find our goals and motivate us to pursue them. Without teachers, there is no lawyer, no doctor, no IAS officer, no researcher, and no astronaut. Teachers are the base of a modern and civilised nation.
I, once again, thank every teacher around the world and especially the ones present here for encouraging us to do better in every step and achieve greater heights and guiding us towards the right path.
Happy teachers’ day.
