CBSE class 12 topper interview: If you are determined enough, nothing can deter you from achieving anything in this world. Living by this code, Chahat Bodhraj has raised the bar for the next batch of CBSE class 12 candidates scoring a perfect 100 in five subjects and 97 in English to score 99.4%. In a conversation with Careers360, the third topper shares she wants to pursue communication design and attributes her success to her parent, teachers and sisters. She also shared what all strategies she had made to prepare well for the exam.
Careers360: Congratulations on making it to the top three list. How are you feeling and rejoicing at your result?
Chahat Bodhraj: Thanks a lot. I never thought that I would top the class 12th board with a 99.4%. I am overjoyed as I did not expect that my name will be on the top 10 list. I only aimed to achieve good marks in the exam as my performance was good throughout the year.
Careers360: What is your percentage and total marks in each subject?
Chahat Bodhraj: I scored 100 in the five subjects-Geography, Psychology, History, Commercial arts and Home Science. I obtained 97 in English. My total score is 497 out of 500, which is 99.4%.
Careers360: How did you prepare for the exam? What did all strategies you make and did you make a timetable?
Chahat Bodhraj: I was dedicated towards my studies throughout the year as the syllabus was huge. I tried to give my best performance to each exam, be it midterm or pre-board. I was being consistent with my preparation schedule, which enabled me to prepare well for the exam. I also practiced a lot from the sample paper and previous years’ papers before the last six months of my exam. I had made a timetable, but couldn’t follow it religiously as I had to prepare for half yearly and midterm exams. But I followed a timetable before the last month of my exam and devoted equal time to each subject.
Careers360: Did you take tuitions for your preparation?
Chahat Bodhraj: I did not take any tuition for the 12th board, but I took coaching for my entrance exam. I prepared for the board on my own and with the help of my teachers.
Careers360: What role did your teachers play in your preparation for the exam?
Chahat Bodhraj: That’s commendable. My teachers were accessible to me round the year, to be precise, 24/7. They worked hard to make me prepare for the exam and call me for extra classes. They gave me as much attention as they could give to clear my doubts. My teachers supported me every step of the way.
Careers360: Who all are there in your family and how did they guide you?
Chahat Bodhraj: We are four members in our family-My mother, sister, grandmother and myself. I must say that my family went the extra mile to help me in my preparation. My mother would always available to me and ensured that nothing disturbs me when I am studying. She would turn off the TV and make sure that there is no noise at home. She would feed me on time and asked me to take proper sleep. My sister was in Dubai during my board exam to pursue her graduation, but I got constant support from her, such as emotional and informational. As she had already been through my board exam, she guided me from her personal experience as to where I should draw my focus more.
Careers360: Which is your favorite subject and why do you like it?
Chahat Bodhraj: I like all the subjects equally that I study, but English is my favorite. I like English more because I thoroughly enjoy and have a good command in it. This subject is different from other subjects as I get to read stories that hook my interest. I like studying grammar and I also share a good rapport with my English teacher. Apart from this, I like Psychology too.
Careers360: Challenges are always a part and parcel of preparation. So, were there any challenges you encountered while preparing for the exam?
Chahat Bodhraj: Yeah, I faced some of them. I studied each topic at least 10 times throughout the year and seeing the question I had this feeling I can easily solve or answer it. But actually, when I sat to solve the sample papers, the scenario was different as I tend to forget the concept. To beat this challenge, I devoted a month before my exam completely for revision. The other challenge was that the entrance exam for designing that took place in between and before my board exam, so I had to keep juggling between my board and entrance exam.
Careers360: Did you face any kind of peer pressure? If yes, share your experience.
Chahat Bodhraj: Peer pressure had never taken a toll on my health or peace of mind. There were expectations from my teachers and family, but they never put any kind of pressure in me. They were always encouraging and knew that I have the potential to do well in the exam.
Careers360: What do you plan to do after 12th and why?
Chahat Bodhraj: I want to enroll myself in a communication design course, so I am in quest of colleges for the same. I want to do pursue this course because I feel that I am good at art and would be able to justify this chosen career.
Careers360: What are your hobbies and interests?
Chahat Bodhraj: I like drawing, painting and sketching. I also read books and occasionally play the piano. I am not a trained or professional piano player, but I have learned the basics in my school during my childhood days. I follow Youtube tutorials to enhance my skill. I also love to read comics.
Careers360: Do you watch movies?
Chahat Bodhraj: I am not a movie freak who would like to pay a visit to a theater to watch it. I watch movies at home in my leisure time.

Chahat Bodhraj: I am not into games much, but I occasionally play chess and word games online.
