Breaking down two-digit integers into their place values can also make the process easier. For instance, you can break down 37 into 30 and 7, then multiply each part by the one-digit number before combining them. This can be mentally calculated and is much simpler than it seems.
Even if you can't remember the multiplication fact, there are ways to calculate it mentally. For example, 17×9 can be organized as 17×(10-1), which equals 170-17 = 153. Utilizing these techniques can make multiplication easier and more manageable, even for difficult problems.
Numbers with a 2-digit product are multiplied by more than two while regrouping. The outcome of this type of multiplication must be carried to the place value after that, which is higher.
