Ans: There are 73 whole numbers between 12 and 86.
Now before answering this question let's discuss what the whole numbers are. Whole numbers are numbers starting from 0 and going up to infinity. Do you know the difference between whole numbers and natural numbers? Natural numbers start from 1 and go up to infinity whereas whole numbers start from 0 and go up to infinity. 0 is a whole number. Now to find how many whole numbers lie between any two numbers we have to do subtraction.

A whole number is a complete number that starts from 0 and goes up to infinity. For example, 0,1,2,3,4… and so on.
To find the whole number between 12 and 84
First, we have to do subtraction.
So, subtract 12 from 86 to get the answer.
86-12= 74
As we know, to find the total number we have to subtract 1 from the difference between these two numbers.
74-1 = 73.
So, 73 whole numbers lie between 12 and 86.
Let's do some examples to get more clarity on this concept.
Find whole numbers lying between 45 and 29
To find the whole number, subtract these two numbers. After this, subtract 1 from the answer.
45-29 = 16
16-1 = 15.
So, 15 whole numbers lie between 45 and 23.
Find whole numbers between 67 and 20.
Again subtract 20 from 67
67-20= 47
Then subtract 1 from 47
47-1=46
So, 46 whole numbers lie between 67 and 20.
As we have learnt, there are 73 whole numbers between numbers 12 and 86.
