What is the GATE exam?

A nationwide examination known as the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is authorized and administered in eight different locations. The Ministry of Human Resources Development, National Coordinating Board, and Department of Education rely on the GATE Committee, academics from IISc, and seven other IITs to administer the test. The GATE exam is designed to gauge students' proficiency in engineering and science-related courses.

Duration for The Exam

As of 2023, the GATE exam consists of 29 papers and is administered as a 3-hour computer-based test (CBT). Each paper contains 65 total questions, of which 10 are from the general aptitude part and 55 are from the subject.

Know How Many NAT Questions in GATE Exams

There are 65 questions total, and they come in a variety of formats, including multiple-choice (MCQ), multiple-selection (MSQ), and numerical answer type (NAT) questions. However, we are unsure about the precise number of NAT questions that appear on GATE exams. The Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions, on the other hand, will either be worth one mark or two. For these questions, there are no available options.

The 65 questions were broken down into 30 one-mark questions and 35 two-mark questions in accordance with the weighted marks from last year for specific subjects. Additionally, for each incorrect response on MCQs worth 1 mark or 2 marks, a fraction of a mark will be subtracted. Unattempted questions are to receive zero marks. But there won't be any negative marking for NAT questions.

Notes -

• NAT questions can range from 25 to 30, depending on the branch. It is up to IIT to determine which questions will be included in a certain GATE paper.
  
  
• For the MSQ and NAT, there are no negative grades. As a result, applicants can choose to take the MSQ and NAT components of the exam and attempt them without worrying about receiving a negative grade.
  
  
• For the GATE test, the mechanical engineering paper contained 35 NAT (Numerical Answer Type) questions; however, it varies depending on the specific IIT and the number of questions it sets on paper.
  
  
• It depends on the specific IIT and how many questions it places on paper, however, the GATE electrical engineering paper included no NAT (Numerical Answer Type) questions. There are often 15 to 20 questions of this nature.
  
  
• Test takers must obtain a score of at least 25% on each of the separate sections and an overall score that surpasses the exam's overall pass mark (usually around 60%) to pass the test.
  
  
• 30 questions will receive two marks each, while the first 25 will receive one mark each. 15% of General Aptitude and 85% of the Core Discipline are made up of the subjects with the codes AR, CY, PH, ST, EY, GG, MA, XH, and XL.
