Basic number systems are very different from each other, whether it is how numbers are written/said or how they are expressed. Ex: In the international number system, they write numbers like this: 1766. We would read it as this: one thousand seven hundred and sixty-six. In the Indian number system, we usually write numbers differently. In the International number system, we express thousands, millions, and billions, but in the Indian number system, we express numbers thousands, lakhs, and crores. Lakhs is expressed as 1,00,000 while crore is expressed as 1,00,00,000. When one million is expressed numerically, it is written as 1,000,000. One thousand can be broken down into three zeros. It thus has six zeroes. One million equals 10 lakhs since both have the same count of zeros.
International Number System | ||||||
Million | Hundred thousand | Ten thousand | Thousand | Hundreds | Tens | Ones |
1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Ten lakhs | Lakhs | Ten thousand | Thousand | Hundreds | Tens | Ones |
Indian Number System |
Thus we can say that one million is equal to Ten lakhs,
I.e., 1,000,000 = 10,00,000.
One million or ten lakhs can be expanded in both the, International number system and the Indian number system.
Expansion form in the International number system
\begin{array}{l}
1\times\text {thousand}\times \text { thousand}\\
= 1\times 1000 \times 1000 \\
=1,000,000\: \text {million}
\end{array}
Expansion form in the Indian number system
\begin{array}{l}
1\times \text {ten lakhs }+0 \times \text {lakhs}+0 \times \text {ten thousand}+0 \times \text {thousand}+0\times \text { hundred }+0 \times \text {tens }+0 \times \text {ones } \\
= 1\times 1000000+0 \times 100000 +0 \times 10000 +0 \times 1000+0 \times 100+0 \times 10+0 \times 1 \\
=10,00,000\: lakhs
\end{array}
The table of conversion from million to lakhs, helps in understanding the numbers from both the systems properly. Following is the table:
International Number System | Indian Number System |
1 million | 10 lakhs |
2 million | 20 lakhs |
3 million | 30 lakhs |
4 million | 40 lakhs |
5 million | 50 lakhs |
10 million | 1 crores |
50 million | 5 crores |
100 million | 10 crores |
The value of 5 crores in the International number system is 50 million.
Yes, it is a composite as well as an even number.
10 million equals 1 crore in the Indian Number System.
12.5 million means 1 crore 25 lakhs according to the Indian Number system. It can be written as One crore twenty lakhs.
10 million has seven zeros.
