The "Preamble" of the Indian Constitution is a brief introduction that sets out the guiding purpose and principles of the document and indicates the sources from which the document derives its authority. H.People. It was passed by the Constituent Assembly of India on 26 November 1949 and came into force on 26 January 1950.
Nehru introduced the Purpose Resolution (a resolution outlining the goals of Congress) in 1946 before the constitutional process began.
The goals and principles that inspired the constitution were incorporated into this resolution.
Goal Resolution formed the basis of the Indian Constitution which institutionalized the essential values of equality, liberty, democracy, sovereignty, and international identity.
This cemented my moral resolve to set up a government that would fulfil the many promises the nationalist movement made to the Indian people.
The preamble to the Constitution is based on this resolution passed by an overwhelming majority on January 22, 1947.
The essential framework of our Constitution is contained in the purpose of the Preamble. It highlights the core ideas and philosophies of the Indian Constitution. It is considered the soul of the Constitution.
The basic tenets that the objective resolution highlighted were:
Drafting the Constitution of India
Making all pre-independence territories of India into the post-independence United States of America
Making the Indian people the source of power and authority of sovereignty and independence
Justice, social, economic, Political Equality, Equal Opportunity, and Freedom of Thought
Expression, Belief, and Worship
Ethnic Minorities, Tribal and Backward Areas, and Other Oppressed Underclasses
Promoting Peace and Prosperity Among Secular Nations
It was enacted after the enactment of the entire Constitution of India
The term ‘secular’ was added to the Preamble of the Indian Constitution by the 42nd Constitutional Amendment Act of 1976.
The Preamble secures to all citizens of India liberty of belief, faith, and worship
The ideal of justice (social, economic, and political) in the Preamble are borrowed from the Soviet Union (Russia) Constitution
Republic and the ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity are borrowed from the French Constitution
Preamble, in itself, has been first introduced through the American Constitution

The preamble was changed only once by the 42nd Constitutional Amendment Act of 1976. Changes included his three terms: socialism, secular, and integration. However, when the state of emergency broke out in India on December 18, 1976, Indira Gandhi's government made some changes to the 42nd Amendment to the Constitution. National Unity has been changed to "National Unity and Integrity".
