Introduction

All the flowers in the world serve and spread happiness with its beauty. But all are not having the same features, colour, fragrance, and belonging to the same type. Some are grown in trees, shrubs and in plants. A few remain the same as flowers, a few may change into fruits and vegetables. Yet all the flowers are dissected and classified among its common features.

Parts of Flowers

Botanists dissected flowers and labelled different parts for research purposes. It helps us to know about the different elements and the difference between the elements. They are

  1. Sepals

  2. Stamens

  3. Petals

  4. Pistil

1. Sepals

Sepals work as a security system for the flower. Sepals are modified leaves which protect the flower since it is a bud, when it blooms it helps to hold the weight of the petals. The group of sepals is called Calyx.

2. Stamen

Stamen is the male part of the flower which is involved in reproduction. It consists of two parts. They are anther and filaments.

Anther

The anther contains pollen sacs. Pollen sacs have pollen grains that are released by the anther when they mature for the purpose of reproduction.

Filaments

Filament is a linear tube which holds the anther high enough to release the pollen which attracts the insects and then the wind could carry on the pollen grains for natural pollination.

3. Petals

Petals are the prominent part of the flower. Most of the flowers have brightly coloured petals to attract insects for pollination. A group of petals is called a Corolla.

5.Pistil

Pistil is a reproductive organ which serves as a female. It is of three sections: stigma, style and ovary.

Stigma

Stigma is an open at the top of the style. It receives the pollen grains. The mature stigma secretes a fluid that stimulates the pollen grains to germinate.

Style

Style is a lengthy hollow tube which holds the stigma.

Ovary

Ovary is the enlarged basal portion of the pistil, where the reproduction takes place. The ovary contains ovules, which develop into seeds upon fertilization.

Ovule

Ovule is modified into seed after germination. It is born in the ovary of the flowers.

Pedicel

Pedicels are the stem which holds the individual flower, but it depends on the form of fluorescence. Its function is to expose the flower to the sunlight and wind. It also holds the flower in a high place to attract insects easily by spreading aroma.

Conclusion

Even though every part of the flower is having different characteristics and features, all are combined to form a single attractive flower to impress our hearts.
