The Indian parliament is the Republic of India's supreme legislative body. It is a bicameral legislature composed of the President of India as well as two houses: the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha. As the head of the legislature, the president has complete authority to revive and prorogue either house of Parliament, as well as dissolve the Lok Sabha. Only on the advice of the Prime Minister and his Union Council of Ministers can the president exercise these powers.
The Rajya Sabha is also recognized as the House of Elders. It is the upper house of the parliament's two houses. In 2022, it will have a total membership of 245, with 233 elected members by the legislatures of the 28 States and 8 Union Territories through a single voting system known as an open ballot. This upper house has a seating capacity of 250 people.
The Lok Sabha, constitutionally the House of the People, is the lower house of India’s Parliament. Members of Lok Sabha are elected by an adult universal suffrage, and they hold their seats for five years or until the body is dissolved by the president on the advice of the Council of Ministers. The speaker of Lok Sabha is elected by the Members of Lok Sabha. He is elected by members of Lok Sabha from amongst its members as soon as, after the first meeting.
India is divided into 543 Parliamentary Constituencies for election purposes. Each of these distinct territories elects one Lok Sabha member. In Lok Sabha, 131 seats are reserved for representatives of Scheduled Castes. According to the Delimitation Commission's order from 2008, 412 seats are general, 84 for scheduled castes, and 47 for scheduled tribes.
India is a country divided into various states and constituencies. All of these constituencies are governed by a single Parliamentary system established by the Indian constitution. The president is our country's primary leader, making all decisions while maintaining the well-being of all Indians in mind. As a result, India is divided into 543 Parliamentary Constituencies.
