As we all know, to measure any physical quantity we need units. So to measure the length of any object we have several units. These units are metres, centimetres, millimetres, decameters, decimeters and many more. In our day-to-day life calculations, we need to convert one unit to another unit. So, in this article, we will learn the conversion of a centimetre to a millimetre or millimetre to a centimetre. 1 cm is equal to 10 mm, know how?? To learn the concept of millimetres and centimetre and their conversion, to one another continue reading this article.
A centimetre is a unit used to measure the length in the metric system. In the CGS unit system, centimetres are considered as the base length. The centimetre is roughly equal to the width of the fingernail of an average adult. One centimetre is equal to one-hundredth of a metre. Centimetre can also be written as "cm".
There are many uses for centimetre units. Some of the uses are explained below:
Centimetres usually measure the distance or length of any object.
It is also used to report the level of rainfall, which is mapped by a rain gauge.
It is also a unit used to measure the length of objects. A millimetre is one-thousandth of a metre. It is a prefix used before a metre. One millimetre can also be written as 10-3m. "mm '' is an abbreviated form of Millimetre.
A millimetre is a small unit, we can't measure an object's length in millimetres with a normal ruler or scale, for this, we need high-quality scales or rulers.
A millimetre is used to measure the length of small objects or small distances.
To understand the relationship between millimetres and centimetres first we need to understand their relationship with metres.
One metre is equal to 100 centimetres, whereas one metre is equal to 1000 millimetres. So, 100 centimetres is equal to 1000 millimetres. From this, we can conclude that 1 cm is equal to 10 millimetres or 1 millimetre is equal or 0.1 centimetre.
1 cm = 10 mm or 1 mm = 0.1 cm.
As we have already studied, 1 millimetre is equal to 0.1 centimetres. So, to convert a millimetre to a Centimetre, divide it by 10.
Millimetre/10 = centimetre.
Examples
Convert 40 mm to cm
40 millimetre/10 = 4 centimetres hence, 4 mm = 4 cm.
Convert 85 mm to cm
85 millimetre/10 = 8.5 centimetres, hence 85 mm = 8.5 cm.
1 centimetre is equal to 10 millimetres. So to convert a centimetre to a millimetre, we need to multiply it by 10.
1 centimetre = 10 × millimetre.
Examples
Convert 38 cm to mm
38 centimetres × 10 = 380 millimetres. hence, 38cm = 380 mm.
Convert 65 cm to mm
65 centimetres × 10 = 650 millimetres. Hence, 65 cm = 650 mm.
