In order to understand that number of hundreds together, that makes one lakh is a thousand hundred. In the next section, we shall understand more about the formulas and the way of writing the same.
In order to understand the ways of writing the hundreds that make one lakh is;
One lakh is written in numbers as; 1,00,000
Now, the number of 100 that make 1,00,000 is;
\begin{aligned}
& =\frac{100000}{100} \\
& =1000
\end{aligned}
Therefore, from the above depiction, it is clear how a lakh is formed numerically. A lakh is sometimes written as lac. In the Indian 2,2,3 protocol of numerical digit grouping, it is written as mentioned above. For example, in India, 120,000 rupees becomes 1.2 lakh rupees, written as ₹1,20,000 or INR 1,20,000. Whenever written in English in India, the word is used as both an attribute noun and a non-attribute noun; the plural is either marked or unmarked ("-s"). Let's look at the "500,000" example. "hundreds of thousands of people", "twenty-five hundred thousand rupees", or "rupees of rupees". The most widely used number system originally came from India and is now used all over the world, the Hindu-Arabic number system.
Now consider a number such as 155. If you notice that the number 5 is used twice and both values are different. Digits are distinguished by their digit value. A digit value is defined as the numeric value of a digit based on a particular digit's position. So the rightmost 5th digit has a value of 1, and the middle value is 10. Digit values in a mathematical system correspond to the order 1, tens, hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, hundreds of thousands, millions of rupees, and so on.
In the number 20,27,75,618, the place values of each digit are:
8 – Ones
1 – Tens
6 – Hundreds
5 – Thousands
7 – Ten Thousand
7 – Lakhs
2 – Ten Lakhs
0 – Crores
2 – Ten Crores
With the above example, it is clear that the placing of a particular digit is so important while determining the value of the number. Consider an example of A)1,00,000 or B)0,00,001; which one holds a bigger value? The answer is A because the number is 1 lakh, and it holds a bigger value as per the mathematical numeric system, while B is low because the number simply states as 1 and any zeroes placed before the digit holds no value.
From the above-shown examples and formulas, it is clearly understood how one lakh is derived from hundreds. In order to understand the relationship between each one of them;
1 hundred = 10 tens
1 thousand = 100 tens
1 lakh = 1000 hundreds
1 crore = 10000 thousands
If we consider an international numerical system, then number 62,325,478;
8 – Ones
7 – Tens
4 – Hundreds
5 – Thousands
2 – Ten Thousand
3 – Hundred Thousands
2 – Millions
6 – Ten Million
So, the main difference in the international system is when the place values cross thousands.
