7 faces are present in a pentagonal prism.

The Pentagonal prism is one type of geometrical model. This type of prism is present with one pentagonal base and roof. The sides of this prism consist of five rectangles joining to form a closed structure. In this figure, the total number of faces is seven. This includes the one facing the top, the one facing the bottom, and five sides facing the side which are in the shape of five rectangles. As there are seven faces, this figure is also called a heptahedron. Thus the number of faces in a pentagonal prism is 7.

A heptahedron of this kind will have 10 vertices and 15 edges (straight lines) to join the vertices. Therefore, the number of straight edges or straight lines that join the prism's corners or vertices is 15. This kind of prism is also referred to as a polygon prism with five sides. A prism can be easily understood by representing a three-dimensional box, with a solid figure of a uniform cross-section having two common bases. This figure's net geometrical shapes consist of one pentagon and five rectangles.

Types Of The Pentagonal Prism

Pentagonal prisms are of two types

1. Regular pentagonal prism

2. Right pentagonal prism

Regular Pentagonal Prism

This is the type of pentagonal prism with their sides having equal lengths. This prism can also be termed as a uniform prism or a semiregular polyhedron. Here all the rectangular faces present will be of precisely the same shape and size, by which means it is also known as to be congruent. The rectangular faces are at times called lateral when the faces of the prism are bases. The rectangular lateral side faces are known as lateral edges. When two uniform prisms or semi-regular polyhedrons are kept together, they can form a structure called a pentagonal bipyramid. The angles between the sides of the bases will measure to be about 108°.

Rectangular Pentagonal Prism

In this type of prism, the pentagonal prism appears to be a right-angled one with two congruent (equal in size and shape) and parallel faces. The five rectangular faces will remain perpendicular to the triangles.

Example

The pentagon Building in Washington represents an example of the shape of a pentagonal prism.

Conclusion

Thus, we have learnt that a pentagonal prism has 7 faces - two pentagonal bases and 5 rectangular side faces.
