Protection and education of the girl child have become one of the most sensitive issues in India. In some parts of the country, the condition of girls is disturbing and depressing. The sad truth is that even during this modernised era, girls are unequally and ill-treated in some parts of the country. They relinquished their basic rights such as the right to speech and the right to education. Some families choose to abort the girls in the mother's womb as they are considered a burden to the family. The girls have been suffering from many issues such as physical and sexual assault, exploitation, and dowry issues. The leaders of the country have stressed the need to protect the girl child and educate them.
Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is an initiative taken by the three government ministers of India due to rising cases of abortion, declining child sex ratio, and treatment is given to females by family members and society.
The campaign was started in the year 2015 in Haryana by Narendra Modi the Prime Minister of India.
It was a joint effort of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
The campaign first began with a budget of 100 crores and covered 100 districts of India with the lowest child sex ratio.
The movement further extended to 61 districts during its second phase.
Under the scheme, every girl will have her bank account and these accounts are tax-free.
One of the major reasons to start the movement is to stabilise the declining rate of girl children.
It is a movement challenging the stereotypical mentality and promoting the celebration of girls at the same time.
Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is a movement to empower women in society.
The movement has promoted growth and also opened opportunities for women in various fields and allowed them to flourish.
Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is a national campaign launched by the Government of India in 2015 to address the issue of declining child sex ratio and to empower the girl child. The campaign aims to create a positive environment for the girl child and to ensure that she receives equal opportunities for education, healthcare and protection from discrimination and violence.
The campaign focuses on the importance of educating the girl child and promoting her participation in all aspects of society. It also addresses the issues of gender discrimination and violence against women, and works towards creating a society that values and respects the rights of the girl child.
One of the key aspects of the campaign is to create awareness about the issue of declining child sex ratio and the importance of educating the girl child. It also works towards changing the societal attitudes and mindset towards the girl child, and promoting her participation in all aspects of society.
The campaign has been successful in creating awareness about the issue and changing societal attitudes towards the girl child. It has also led to an increase in enrollment of girls in schools and a reduction in discrimination and violence against women.
Girl children have been deprived of any privileges, education, and basic rights in many parts of India. Society has considered girls as a burden and weak individuals who should be deprived of any kind of rights. It is a heartbreaking situation to know that girl children are killed either in the mother's womb or after birth due to the stereotypical mentality of society. Due to these reasons, girls have suffered issues like sexual harassment, physical assault, eve teasing, and dowry. Parents have been scared to give birth to a girl because they are afraid of the treatment their child might receive from society. One of the major concerns of parents to have a girl is the dowry demands during weddings. Dowry demands have led to cases of abortion and the burning of females after marriage.
To get rid of the problems we are facing for females in the country, the Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi started a campaign named "Beti Bachao Beti Padhao'' in the year 2015. The campaign started from Panipat, Haryana with a budget of 100 crores focussing on 100 districts with a declining child sex ratio. However, the responsibility does not lie only in the government's hands but also in the hands of the citizens of the country.
Under the scheme, various initiatives have been undertaken by districts. These initiatives include—
Digital Gudda Guddi Board | It is a digital platform for exhibiting gender disparity in birth rates, and provides information on schemes and programmes created for girl children.
Udaan - Sapne Di Duniya De Rubaru | An initiative offering girls an opportunity to shadow professionals in different fields.
My Aim My Target Campaign | It is a programme to felicitate top academic performances by girls in higher secondary schools.
Lakshya Se Rubaru | An internship programme for female students in colleges to encourage and inform them about their careers.
Noor Jeevan Ka Betiyan | It is a week-long campaign celebrated with gender empowerment, theme-based interactive activities organised in schools, Panchayats, and colleges.
Bitiya and Birba | An awareness campaign on the BBBP initiative. Under this, the mother of a newly born girl child is celebrated and honored with a plant.
Aao School Chalein | An enrolment campaign involving door-to-door visits and registrations to ensure 100% enrolment of girls in schools.
Collector Ki Class | Initiative offering free coaching classes and career counselling for underprivileged girls in public schools and colleges.
Bal Cabinet | Youth leadership programme where girl students simulate government cabinets and ministerial roles to discuss and resolve issues.
The education given to a girl never remains till them but is ultimately passed to the next generations. That is why it is said that if you educate a girl, you educate many. In conclusion, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is an important national campaign that addresses the issue of declining child sex ratio and works towards empowering the girl child. It promotes education, healthcare, and protection of the girl child, and creates a society that values and respects the rights of the girl child. It is a campaign that we all should support and contribute to make a better society for our girl child.
