    Number Names:

    Number names are used to represent numbers in alphabetical format. A specific word is used to refer to each number. To write a number in English words, we should know the place value of each digit in the number.

    Ex: In the numbers' names form, 23 is written as “twenty-three.”

    TYPES OF NUMBERS:

    • Natural numbers

    • Whole numbers

    • Integers

    • Fractional and decimal numbers.

    • Real numbers

    • Rational numbers

    • Irrational numbers

    • Complex numbers

    • Imaginary numbers

    • Even numbers

    • Odd numbers

    • Prime numbers and

    • Composite numbers

    Natural numbers:

    Natural numbers are the numbers that contain the positive integers from 1 to infinity. Natural numbers are denoted by “N”.

    N={1,2,3,4,5,.............}

    Whole numbers:

    Whole numbers are the numbers that contain all natural numbers, which include “zero(0)”. It is denoted by “W”.

    W={0,1,2,3,..............}

    Integers:

    Integers are the numbers on the number line that contain both positive and negative numbers, including 0. It is denoted by “Z”

    Z = {.................,-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3,..................}

    Positive integers: 1,2,3,.........., also known as natural numbers.

    Negative Integers: ………,-3,-2,-1.

    Fractional And Decimal Numbers:

    Fractions are part of the whole. They are represented by numbers that have two parts to them and are separated by a bar. There is a number at the top, which is called the numerator, and the number at the bottom is called the denominator.

    Ex:

    (numerator)1/4 (denominator)

    Decimals have a whole number part and a fractional part. These parts are separated by a decimal point.

    Ex:

    Decimal Point

    Whole number part 20 . 5Fractional part

    Real numbers:

    All the positive and negative integers, fractional, and decimal numbers without imaginary numbers are called real numbers. It is denoted by “R”.

    R={-4,0,3,⅓,4.89,...........}

    Rational numbers:

    Any number that can be written as a ratio of one number over another is written as a rational numbers. This means that any number that can be written in the form of p/q. This is denoted by “Q”

    Ex: 1,3,5,..........

    Prime numbers:

    Prime numbers are the numbers that have two factors only, that is 1 and the number itself.

    Ex: 2,3,5,...........

    Composite numbers:

    Composite numbers are those that have more than two factors.

    Ex: 4,6,8,9,.........

    Note: ”1” is neither prime nor composite.

    Cardinal and Ordinal Numbers:
