Multiplication is one of the four major mathematical operations. The other three are Addition, Subtraction, and Division. Multiplication is nothing but the repetitive addition of a particular number. In history, Babylonians were the first people to use a multiplication table about 4000 years ago. Chinese were the first to use tables using a base of 10 in about 305 BC.

Modern-day maths has a lot of need for times tables. From everyday calculations like billing, budget making, and shopping to more complex calculations like rocket science needs maths calculations and especially multiplication. This multiplication is easily introduced to children with the help of times tables. It is a list of multiples of a number. It is a product of two natural numbers.

Multiplication Chart

A multiplication chart is a helpful tool for learning and practising multiplication facts. To use the multiplication chart:

Look for the two numbers you want to multiply along the top and left-hand sides of the chart.

Find where the row and column intersect to identify the product of those two numbers.

Repeat this process for other multiplication facts you want to learn or practice.

For example, if you want to know the product of 4 and 7, find the row with the number 4 at the top of the chart and the column with the number 7 on the left-hand side of the chart. The intersection of the row and column will show you the product, which is 28.

Multiplication charts can be especially helpful for children who are just beginning to learn multiplication tables, as they provide a visual representation of the relationships between numbers. By using the chart regularly, children can quickly memorise multiplication facts and become more comfortable with multiplication in general.

A table that displays the results of multiplying two integers is a multiplication chart. In this chart, one set of numbers is written in the leftmost column and another set in the top row. An array of integers in a rectangle shape is used to list the products.

The method to find the product using Multiplication Chart is given below:

Pick a number from the leftmost column's list of numbers and another from the top row.

The second step is to move along the row of the first number and down the column below the second number. The product of the two numbers is found in the square where the two numbers intersect.

For example, the product of 6 and 7 can be easily identified as 42.

Times Table of 42

Times table basically represents that when a number is added to itself the number of times equal to the number we intend to multiply it to, the repeated addition yields the same result as multiplication. It is shown below in the table.

42 × 1 = 42

42

42 × 2 = 84

42+42=84

42 × 3 = 126

42+42+42=126

42 × 4 = 168

42+42+42+42=168

42 × 5 = 210

42+42+42+42+42=210

42 × 6 = 252

42+42+42+42+42+42=252

42 × 7 = 294

42+42+42+42+42+42+42=294

42 × 8 = 336

42+42+42+42+42+42+42+42=336

42 × 9 = 378

42+42+42+42+42+42+42+42+42=378

42 × 10 = 420

42+42+42+42+42+42+42+42+42+42=420

Solved Problems

Q1. There are 42 flowers in a tree and two butterflies in each flower. How many butterflies are there in total?

Ans:

No. of. flowers=42

No. of. Butterflies in each flower=2

Total no.of.butterflies =42\times 2= 84 1689058348553

Q2. The length of one stick is 42cm. How many sticks will make 210cm?

Ans:

one stick = 42

42\times a =210 1689058348670

a=210/42

a=5

42\times 5 =210 1689058348730

Q3. What is 6 repetitive addition of 42?

Ans:

42+42+42+42+42+42

This can be done with the help of multiplication as 6\times 42 = 252 1689058348780

Q4: There are 42 apples in a basket. Raju bought 8 baskets of apples. How many apples has Raju bought in total?

Ans:

No.of.apples in one basket = 42

Total no.of. Baskets = 8

Total no.of. Apples = 42\times 8=336 1689058348839

Q5: Find square of 42

Ans: A square is twice the multiplication of a number

So, the square of 42 is 42\times 42=1764 1689058348889
