Multiplication is the process of repetitive addition of the same number. It can help us find the product of two or more numbers very quickly. This operation is a fundamental part of arithmetic, and it is essential for solving many problems in math, science, engineering, and other fields. Multiplication is also used in many everyday scenarios, such as calculating the total cost of a purchase or determining the area of a rectangle. Overall, multiplication is a crucial tool that helps us understand and manipulate quantities and values in a wide variety of situations. Multiplication is an important mathematical operation because it allows us to find the total number of items in groups when we know the number of items in each individual group. This operation is fundamental to many other concepts in mathematics and is used in a wide range of applications, including in science, engineering, and everyday life. For example, multiplication is used to find the area of a rectangle by multiplying the length and width of the rectangle. Apart from its practical applications, it’s also an important concept for building a foundation of further mathematics.
The number of times we add the composite number 160, we will get the multiplication or the product of 160. For example, if 160 is added 4 times, we get
160+160+160+160
which is equal to 640. This can be also written as
160 \times 4 = 640
Repetitive addition of a particular number can be represented by a multiplication table. To represent the multiplication table or times table for 160 we repeatedly add the number and obtain the final result. The following table represents the repetitive addition and the final results for the composite number 160:
160 \times 1 = 160 | 160 |
160 \times 2 = 320 | 160+160 = 320 |
160 \times 3 = 480 | 160+160+160 = 480 |
160 \times 4 = 640 | 160+160+160+160 = 640 |
160 \times 5 = 800 | 160+160+160+160+160 = 800 |
160 \times 6 = 960 | 160+160+160+160+160+160= 960 |
160 \times 7 = 1120 | 160+160+160+160+160+160+160 = 1120 |
160 \times 8 = 1280 | 160+160+160+160+160+160+160+160 = 1280 |
160 \times 9 = 1440 | 160+160+160+160+160+160+160+160+160 = 1440 |
160 \times 10 =1600 | 160+160+160+160+160+160+160+160+160+160 = 1600 |
The following table contains the multiplication of 160 up to 20 times. If observed closely, a pattern can be observed in the 160 multiplication table, whereas 160 is an even number, the final products are also all even numbers.
160 | × | 1 | = | 160 |
160 | × | 2 | = | 320 |
160 | × | 3 | = | 480 |
160 | × | 4 | = | 640 |
160 | × | 5 | = | 800 |
160 | × | 6 | = | 960 |
160 | × | 7 | = | 1120 |
160 | × | 8 | = | 1280 |
160 | × | 9 | = | 1440 |
160 | × | 10 | = | 1600 |
160 | × | 11 | = | 1760 |
160 | × | 12 | = | 1920 |
160 | × | 13 | = | 2080 |
160 | × | 14 | = | 2240 |
160 | × | 15 | = | 2400 |
160 | × | 16 | = | 2560 |
160 | × | 17 | = | 2720 |
160 | × | 18 | = | 2880 |
160 | × | 19 | = | 3040 |
160 | × | 20 | = | 3200 |
Problem 1: What are three times the fourth multiple of 160?
Ans: As per the question, three times the fourth multiple of 160 is:
= (160 \times 4) \times 3
= 640 \times 3
= 1920
Thus the value of three times the fourth multiple of 160, is 1920
Problem 2: Harry cuts 160 fruits in one week, how many fruits will he cut in 2 months.
Ans: Two months is equal to 8 weeks,
Therefore, we need 160 \times 8
= 160 \times 8
= 1280
Thus, he will cut 1280 fruits in 2 months.
Problem 3: Find the value of (12 - 4) \times 160
Ans: By simple subtraction, 12 - 4 = 8
As per the multiplication table of 160,
= (12 - 4) \times 160
= 8 \times 160
= 1280
Thus the value of (12 - 4) \times 160 is, 1280
Problem 4: Find the value of 160 \times (10 \div 5)
Ans: By simple division, 10 \div 5 = 2
From the table
= 160 \times (10 \div 5)
= 160 \times 2
= 320
Thus the value of 160 \times (10 \div 5) is, 320
Problem 5: Find the value of 160 \times 17
Ans: From the table, 160 \times 17 = 2720
The factors of 160 are 1,2,4,5,8,10,16,20,32,40,80,160 thus 160 has 12 positive factors.
No, 160 does not fully divide 2157, so 2157 is not divisible by 160.
There exist 2 prime factors of 160, which are 2,5.
No it is not important to follow the order in multiplication, while finding the product, the numbers can be multiplied in any order and the final result will be the same.
A multiplication table is really helpful in real-life applications such as calculating area or counting multiple items of the same type, even counting the number of rows or columns in a particular table.
