The mole is the SI unit used to measure a substance's quantity. Its designation is mol. As a byproduct of chlorine synthesis, sodium hydroxide is created. Sodium hydroxide is a crystalline substance that is white and transparent. Due to its corrosive effects on numerous substances, caustic soda is also known as caustic water. It decomposes proteins at room temperature and can burn human skin chemically. Although it is not a naturally occurring substance, sodium hydroxide has been produced on a large scale from easily accessible raw materials for many years and is used in a variety of industrial processes.

The following method can be used to determine how many moles of sodium hydroxide there are:
Step 1. Calculate the sodium hydroxide's molecular weight.
Molecular mass = Sum of the atomic mass of all the atoms
Molecular mass = Mass of Na + Mass of Oxygen + Mass of Hydrogen
Molecular mass = 22.989 units + 15.999 units + 1.008 unit
The molecular mass of NaOH = 39.996 g/mol
Step 2. Calculate the number of moles by the given formula
Number of moles = Mass of the substance / Molecular mass of a substance
Number of moles = 4 g / 39.996 g/mol
Number of moles of NaOH = 0.100 mol
Hence, 0.100 mole are present in 4 grams of NaOH.
