Introduction

Chapters Included in the Biology of Class 11

Biology of class 11 has an altogether 22 chapters prescribed in its syllabus.

1. Diversity in the Living World - The first unit of the book is aimed to acquaint the student with the world around them.

• The Living World - This chapter introduces the various kinds of existing and extinct living organisms.

• Biological Classification - This chapter introduces the basics of taxonomy, giving the student an idea of the variety of creatures that exist in the world and where they lie in the biological classification system.

• Plant Kingdom - This chapter introduces the first major kingdom of the biological classification in great detail. The study of this kingdom later goes on to develop the field of biology known as botany.

• Animal Kingdom - This chapter introduces the second major kingdom of the biological classification. The study of this kingdom later developed into the field known as zoology.

2. Structural Organisation in Plants and Animals - The second unit aims to acquaint the student with the basic structures of plants and animals.

• Morphology of Flowering Plants - This chapter introduces and explains various types of external structures present in a plant.

• Anatomy of Flowering Plants - This chapter introduces different kinds of cells in a plant.

• Structural Organisation in Animals - This chapter introduces several basic types of cells and their evolution through several classes and kingdoms.

3. Cell: Structure and Functions - This unit aims to acquaint the student with different types of cells and cellular processes occurring inside the human body.

• Cell: The Unit of Life - This chapter introduces the theory behind the formation of cells and the evolution of an organism from a single cell.

• Biomolecules - This chapter introduces several biomolecules which help run the human body.

• Cell Cycle and Cell Division - This chapter introduces the different types of cell divisions which occur inside the human body.

4. Plant Physiology - This unit aims to acquaint the student with the functioning of a plant body.
