Introduction

The Maharashtra Public Service Commission ( MPSC) has a fixed number of attempts for its state service exam. General category candidates can opt for a maximum of 6 attempts and this attempt number increased for Other Backward Castes(OBC) to 9 but whereas Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes candidates get unlimited attempts for this MPSC exam. As per the rules governing the conduct of the examination, there are different relaxations in age criteria as per the candidates’ category.

What is MPSC Exam?

The Maharastra Public Service Commission exam (MPSC) is conducted by Maharashtra Public Service Commission for the recruitment of suitably qualified candidates for various posts available in government departments and offices of the state of Maharastra. There are some similarities between the Civil Service Examination at the Central Government level and the State Service Examination at the State Government level. For example, both of these tests lead to selection for the officer level.

MPSC Exam Age Limit

The MPSC age limit for the State Service Exam 2020 was:

For General Category:

Minimum Age: 19 years old

Maximum Age: 38 years old

For Backward Classes and Qualified Candidates:

Minimum Age: 19 years old

Maximum Age: 43 years old

For Ex-Servicemen:

Minimum Age: 19 years old

Maximum Age: 48 years old

For Person with disabilities:

Minimum Age: 19 years old

Maximum Age: 45 years old

MPSC Educational Qualification

The educational criteria for MPSC exams are:

  1. Competency in Marathi

  2. Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university or an equivalent qualification.

The MPSC exam covers a wide range of government posts in the state of Maharastra so there are more post-specific qualifications apart from educational qualifications.

Few posts require the aspirants to have subject-specific expertise as mandated by the Maharashtra Public Service Commission.

MPSC Exam Pattern Syllabus

MPSC is a competitive state-based exam that is divided into 3 major stages or levels.

  1. MPSC Prelims- 2 papers- 200 marks

  2. MPSC Mains- 6 papers- 800 marks

  3. MPSC Personal test- 100 marks

MPSC 2022 was conducted through a Prelim Exam with 2 Papers, and the Main Exam with 6 mandatory Papers.

  • All the questions are set in Marathi and English

  • The aspirants will get a deduction of 1/4th mark for every incorrect answer.

  • The marks of Prelims will be counted only for shortlisting the aspirants for the MPSC Mains exam.

  • The objective questions carry a negative marking of 1/4th for every wrong answer.

  • The questions of decision making in paper II have no negative marking in case of incorrectly answered questions

  • In every MPSC Mains exam paper, the qualifying marks both for the General category and reserved category candidates are 45 marks and 40 marks respectively.

  • All the Papers are mandatory.

MPSC Personality Test

  • The personality test is the last stage of the MPSC selection process.

  • The aspirants who secured the cut-off in the MPSC mains paper will appear for the interview round.

  • The MPSC Personality Test will be held by a panel of competent and unbiased members of the commission.

  • Through the interview round, the knowledge of current affairs, in-depth knowledge, communication skill, and mental ability of the aspirants will be tested.
