The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) sets the number of attempts for different categories of candidates. Specifically, a candidate in the general category can take her IAS exams only 6 times by the age of 32.
The minimum age to take the IAS exam is 21 years old. This means that the candidate must be at least 21 years old as of August 1st of the year in which the exam is taken. For example, if a candidate enters her 2023 qualifying round, the candidate must be 21 years of age or older on August 1, 2023.
The upper age limit is also calculated on August 1st. This means that any 2023 Prelim candidate who wishes to compete must be below the prescribed cap by August 1, 2023. The age limits vary by category and are as follows.
Maximum age for general categories: 32 years old
OBC: 35 years old
SC/ST: 37 years
The upper limit age for defence personnel disabled during hostilities with foreign countries or in turmoil: are 35 years.
Maximum age for former military personnel, including officers and ECO/SSCO, with more than five years of military service: 37 years.
Upper age limit for the blind, deaf and orthopaedic (general category): are 42 years.
Apart from the stated restrictions, OBC/SC/ST candidates may enjoy cumulative age credits. This means that age relaxation is added in special cases. So if the person is for example he is an OBC + ex-combatant, he gets an extension of 3 + 5 = 8 years. So the upper age limit is now 40.
Candidates must have at least a bachelor's degree from an accredited university to sit the UPSC exam.
Candidates who have taken the final Aptitude Test (Bachelor's) and are awaiting the results are also welcome to apply. Candidates writing the final exam may also apply for the IAS preliminary exam. However, these candidates must prove they have passed the exam when applying for the IAS main exam.
Exceptionally, UPSC may admit an applicant who does not fall into the above categories if she has passed an exam administered by another institution at a level that, in UPSC's opinion, justifies her admission to the UPSC exam. I can do it.
Those who have professional/technical qualifications recognised by the government as equivalent to professional/technical degrees are also eligible.
MBBS candidates, if they have not yet completed an internship at the time of application to UPSC Maine, will be eligible for provisional admission to Maine upon presentation of a copy of the relevant university/institution authority certificate that they have passed the required postgraduate medical examination. Allowed. At the time of the interview, these candidates will be required to provide a certificate from the university/institution demonstrating that they have met all requirements (including completion of an internship) to award a medical degree.
Preliminary Exam: This is an objective, multiple-choice test consisting of two papers, General Studies Paper 1 and General Studies Paper 2 (CSAT). Candidates must qualify for the pre-examination in order to pass the main exam.
Main Exam: This is a subjective test consisting of nine of her papers including essay writing, language papers and papers on specific topics. The main exam is held after the preliminary exam, and only those who pass the preliminary exam can appear in the main exam.
Final Stage: The final stage is the interview process. Candidates who pass the main exam will be invited for an interview. The UPSC exam template and syllabus are subject to change and update. Candidates should visit the official UPSC website for the latest information on exam patterns.
