How Many All-India Services are There in India

Introduction

The Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Forest Service(IFS) are the three important governmental services that make up the All India Services. The All India Services have the unusual characteristic that while their members are recruited by the centre (Union government in a federal polity), their services are put under different State cadres, and they have the option of serving both the State and the centre. This is seen as one of the mechanisms that make union government stronger than state government due to the federal polity of the nation.

Responsibilities of Officials

Depending on the public servant's rank, different duties are assigned. Beginning with probation, junior officers advance through the ranks. At the district level, duties are focused on district issues as well as all developmental topics, whereas at the divisional level, duties also include maintaining law and order. Both the state and federal levels frame policies.

Indian Administrative Service

The management of government affairs has been taught to IAS Officers. Because this is their major responsibility, each public employee is assigned to an office that deals with policy matters pertaining to that field. Under the direct direction of the Administrative Officer and in cooperation with the Minister, this office drafts, modifies, and interprets policy issues. The Officer may also recommend that policies be implemented. The Cabinet Secretary is in charge of creating policy, and the Secretaries/Additional Secretaries, Joint Secretaries, Directors, Under Secretaries, and Junior Scale Officers follow in that order. Civil officials fill these posts based on their level of seniority within the Civil Services.

The Minister weighs the issue and makes a judgment after receiving input from a number of officers as part of the decision-making process.

The implementation procedure includes monitoring and touring. There must be oversight of the substantial funds distributed to and by the field offices, and the concerned officials must be ready to answer inquiries from the Parliament.

A two-year probationary period precedes the start of a civil servant's career in the state. The training schools, Secretariat, field offices, or District Magistrate's office is where you spend this time. Assuming the title of Sub-Divisional Magistrate, they are responsible for maintaining law and order as well as general administration, including work on local development. The officer is promoted to the senior scale after completing probation and two years of service as a junior scale officer. At that point, they could serve as a district magistrate, managing director of a public enterprise, or department director. The Senior Time Scale (Joint Secretary), Junior Administrative Grade (Additional Secretary), and the Selection Grade make up the Senior Scale (Special Secretary).

After 13 years of regular service, a selection grade is awarded upon promotion. After 16 years, the State offers the position of Commissioner/Secretary as the next advancement. They also get access to the Super Time Scale thanks to this promotion. An IAS official may then be promoted to the above super time scale, where they are recognized as Principal Secretaries/Financial Commissioners in some states, after 24 years of regular service.

Indian Police Service

Internal security, public safety, and law and order are the responsibilities of the Indian Police Service, or "IPS," as it is more commonly known. The Indian Police Service (IPS) took the role of the Imperial Police (IP) in 1948, a year after India attained independence from Britain. Regardless of the agency they work for, all senior police officers are members of the IPS, which is not a law enforcement organization in and of itself.

An IPS officer must deal with a number of severe, difficult, life-threatening situations. As the Director General of Police, they are responsible for the general internal security of the entire State, as well as the District as a whole as its Superintendent of Police, and in Metropolitan Cities as either the Deputy Commissioner or the Commissioner of Police for the entire City. They have eminent authority since they are the Police Commissioners.

After a two-year probationary period, the IPS officer assumes control as the Assistant Superintendent of Police of a Subdivision or Circle. This position typically has a three-year term.

The following appointment is as Superintendent of Police or Deputy Commissioner of Police after four years, they are promoted to Junior Administrative Grade after nine years, they serve as Senior Superintendent of Police and are paid at Selection Grade (Level 13) in twelve to fourteen years, they become an Inspector General of Police in eighteen years, an Additional Director General of Police in twenty-five years, and finally, they become the Additional Director General of Police in thirty years.

Indian Forest Service

One of the first nations to implement scientific forest management was India. The Imperial Forest Department was formed by the British Raj in 1864. German forest officer Dr Dietrich Brandis was named Inspector General of Forests in 1866. In 1867, the Imperial Forest Service (IFS) was established.

IFS Officers appointed between 1867 and 1885 received their training in Germany and France, as well as in Cooper's Hill, London, a renowned professional college of forestry, from 1885 to 1905. Officers with the Imperial Forestry Service were trained at the Universities of Oxford, Cambridge, and Edinburgh between 1905 and 1926.

The Indian Forest Service is divided into the following ranks: Assistant Conservator of Forests, Probationary Officer; Divisional Forest Officers; Conservator of Forests; Chief Conservator of Forests; Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests; Principal Chief Conservator of Forests; Principal Chief Conservator of Forests; Principal Chief Conservator of Forests; Principal Chief Conservator of Forests; and Director General of Forests (India), which is the highest post.
