People are aware of how competitive the civil service examination is and how the Union Public Service Commission conducts it (UPSC). After a candidate is chosen for the IAS training program at LBSNAA, the path toward realising their dream of becoming an IAS officer begins to open. For government servants, LBSNAA is a different universe, and we shall briefly explain it here.
Indian civil service applicants receive training at the prestigious LBSNAA institute. Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration is the name of this institution, which is situated in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand. IAS civil officers and Group-A Central Civil Services are to be trained at the institution. The Department of Personnel is in charge of the Civil Service Office in the Indian government. The director of LBSNAA holds the same position as the secretary of the Indian government. As of 2022, Sh. Srinivas R. Katikithala serves as the organisation's director.
The Civil Service Examination (CSE) set up by the Union Public Commission Service is the requirement for candidates to be chosen for the LBSNAA (UPSC). Following that, they are selected for the LBSNAA training phase as either an Indian Administrative Officer or a Group-B officer. The following are the three phases of the CSE exam:
Questions on multiple-choice are included in the preliminary exam (MCQs).
Descriptive answers are required in the Mains Exam.
Following success in the primary exams, candidates are invited to a half-hour interview with the board members for the personality test.
To advance to the next level, a candidate must receive the required minimum score in each exam. They are chosen for the LBSNAA training term as an IAS or a Group-B officer when they have successfully completed all three games.
Every Officer Trainee of the All India Services at the LBSNAA is required to take the 15-week Foundation Course. Trainees from the Indian Police Service, Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Forest Service, as well as several other Group-A Central Services, are included in this. While officers from other services continue their education in their respective staff colleges after completing the Foundation Course, IAS officers continue their studies at LBSNAA. Every year, from September through December, the course is started.
IAS Phase-1 consists of two parts and lasts for 26 weeks
The trainees are separated into groups and taken on a tour across India after completing the Foundation Course so they can learn about the diversity and history of the nation. The honourable President of India is one of the higher dignitaries that the trainees get the opportunity to meet. For a thorough understanding, each group is connected to a unique executive, defence, or administrative organisation. A week-long stay at the Lok Sabha Secretariat in Delhi for the Bureau of Parliamentary Studies is a component of the Bharat Darshan.
LBSNAA training lasts 15 weeks as part of the academic module. An exercise drill at LBSNAA kicks off an IAS trainee's day at six in the morning. The module includes a variety of educational courses on topics like soft skills, national security, land management, project management, policymaking, and many more. During the evenings and on weekends, the trainees participate in a variety of activities, including cross-country runs, horseback riding, adventure sports, and cultural activities.
The most challenging training in the LBSNAA training phase is district training, which is year-round (52 weeks). For on-the-job training, candidates are taken to the district level. The district training assists the IAS candidates in learning the fundamentals of administrative work.
IAS Phase-2 is a six-week-long course. The goal of this course is to strengthen the knowledge that the trainees have acquired over the course of the previous year through their participation in various courses. The students are able to impart what they have learned about administrative practice. They also offer the trainees to explore various difficulties and assets of the governance and administration. Distinguished experts in the field from within or outside the government also lead special sessions.
The trainees join their respective areas to begin their work after completing their IAS induction training at LBSNAA. However, a higher-level committee proposed a few years ago that IAS officers should have some operational knowledge of the Central Secretariat. After then, every IAS officer is now given the title of assistant secretary. During their central deputation, the IAS trainees spent a few months working under their assigned Joint Secretaries.
This article paints a picture of how educational the IAS training program at LBSNAA is. The trainees receive comprehensive development to help them serve the country to the best of their abilities. After that, all the effort put into studying all day and other exam preparation pay off.
