List of Paramedical Courses - Apart from well known medical courses like MBBS or BDS, there are other courses that are closely related to these like paramedical courses and allied medical courses. Like the name suggests paramedical courses are crucial programmes that aid medical services and are an integral part of the healthcare system. The Oxford dictionary defines paramedical courses as, “ the courses which supplement and support medical work but do not require a fully qualified doctor (such as nursing, radiography, emergency first aid, physiotherapy, and dietetics). The list of paramedical courses also include pre-emergency, pre-hospital services that are an integral part of any treatment as they are the starting point. The list of paramedical courses is long and varied. Interested students can start after completing their 10th or 12th depending upon the paramedical course they wish to pursue. Check the list of paramedical courses and know important information like eligibility, where to study, how to choose a paramedical course and more in the article below.

Paramedical courses - What are they?

Before starting with the list of paramedical courses, it is important to understand what roles these programmes play and why these are good career choices. A doctor heals and this is a fact but the doctor in fact is assisted by a group of people at every step without whom, the treatment or recovery is just not possible. For example, in an emergency, the paramedical staff takes over the treatment of the patient before reaching the hospital under the care of the doctor or specialist. Similarly, during an operation, doctors are assisted by trained personnel. The list of paramedical courses include emergency services, nursing and more which envelope all areas other than medicine i.e MBBS or MS.

What is the scope of these courses?

Healthcare is one of the growing fields that will always require trained and qualified personnel more so the supportive ones. There is a huge disparity among states when it comes to healthcare facilities. Also, the doctor-patient ratio is skewed, which in turn increases the demand of professionals with experience in healthcare. Paramedical courses are, therefore, some of the more popular and in-demand courses as there is a huge requirement of paramedical personnel. There are career options available not just in health care but also the defence forces which maintain the paramedical forces to cope with emergencies of the nation like flood, natural disasters, evacuation, relief work etc.
