About NTSE 2019

NTSE 2019: National Talent Search Examination NTSE or NTSE 2019 is an offline national level scholarship exam for class 10 students to encourage Sr. Sec. and higher studies in the field of science and social science. It is held in two stages. Stage 1  and stage 2. The first stage of NTSE 2019 is conducted at the state level by SCERT (State Council of Educational Research and Training) or DERT (Directorate of Educational Research and Training) of respective states and union territories. Students who qualify Stage 1 exam will appear for the Stage 2 exam which is conducted by the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT). Candidates who qualify the second stage of NTSE 2019 will be awarded scholarships. A total of 2000 students will be shortlisted for the NTSE 2019 scholarships. This number of scholarships have been increased from 1000 to 2000 beginning from this year.

NTSE Stage 1 exam has been conducted on November 3, 2018, for Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Andaman & Nicobar islands. For all other states and union territories, it has been held on November 4, 2018, except West Bengal and Kerala, which was held on November 18. Almost all the states and UTs have released the answer keys of NTSE stage 1 exam. The result of Stage 1 exam has been declared for many of the states. For other states and UTs, the result will be declared by the end of March 2019. Since the number of scholarships has been increased, every State/UT might increase their state quota and come out with a revised merit list of candidates. Delhi and Maharashtra states have released the revised merit lists for their states while others will declare revised lists for their states in April 2019. The selected students will appear for the Stage 2 exam to be held on June 16, 2019.  The date of NTSE stage 2 has been postponed. It was earlier scheduled for May 12. The result for stage 2 will be declared in September 2019. The candidates who qualify both the stages will be awarded NTSE scholarship.

NTSE 2019 Eligibility Criteria

  • Students currently enrolled in class 10 from any recognized school/board including Sainik Schools, Kendriya Vidyalaya and Navodaya Vidyalaya were eligible to apply for stage 1 of NTSE 2019 stage 1.
  • States cannot impose domicile restrictions for NTSE 2019 stage 1 however they may add additional eligibility conditions such as qualifying score of the previous class.
  • Students studying from the open board, below 18 years of age, unemployed and appearing in class 10 for the first time were also eligible to appear for Stage 1.
  • Only Indian students are allowed to appear for NTSE Stage 1 exam.

NTSE West Bengal

  • A student must have cleared class 9 with 50% for general candidates (with a relaxation of 40% for reserved categories) and currently enrolled in class 10.
  • A student from the open board is also eligible to apply provided they must have scored 50% for general category (with the relaxation of 40% for reserved category) in their previous exams. They also must be below the age of 18 years.
  • Candidates belonging to OBC (non-creamy) as listed in the central list will be treated as OBC here.
  • Candidate must choose the district in accordance to the place of their residence.

NTSE Jammu & Kashmir

The Student must have scored 60% (relaxation of 5%  for SC/ST categories) in class 9 and upcoming class 10 exam for respective Jammu and Kashmir province.

NTSE Uttarakhand

In addition to general eligibility conditions, a candidate must have cleared class 9 with 65% marks for general and OBC category child with a relaxation of 55% for SC/ST/PWD category child to apply for NTSE Uttarakhand stage 1 exam.

NTSE Himachal Pradesh

  • The candidate must be presently enrolled in class 10 at a recognized school of HP board.
  • They must have passed class 9 with 60% for general category and 55% for SC/ST/OBC/PCG from any recognized school in HP board.
  • For candidate belonging to PCG category, disability should be equal to or more than 40%.

NTSE Kerala

Students studying in class 10 from any recognized board are eligible to apply for NTSE Kerala stage 1 exam provided they have passed class 9 exam with 55% marks (excluding language subject).

NTSE Puducherry

In addition to general eligibility, candidates availing NMMS scholarship are also allowed to appear for the stage 1 of NTSE Puducherry.

NTSE Stage 2

  • Students who qualify NTSE stage 1 state wise exam are eligible to sit for NTSE stage 2 exam.
  • Every state releases a merit list of students qualified for national level stage 2 exam.
  • Foreign nationals can directly apply for stage 2 exam. They are exempted from stage 1 exam.

Students were required to download NTSE application form 2019 from the official website of states and UTs or could collect it from school authorities in the first week of August, 2018. They must fill in the application form of NTSE, get it signed by the school principal and submit it to the State Liasion Officer before the last date as stated in their application form.

How to prepare for NTSE 2019?

  • Cover whole syllabus: Students must go through the complete syllabus. Analyze your weak areas and work on them.
  • Practice Sample papers: Once the whole syllabus is covered, start practising the sample papers/ old question papers to have a better idea of exam pattern. It also reduces your exam day stress. Moreover, they can be downloaded and practised as many times as required.
  • Eat Healthily: Student must eat a balanced diet to avoid falling ill. Also, take breaks in between to keep your mind and body fresh.
  • Exercise: Students must also exercise regularly as it helps a lot in de-stressing.

According to the NTSE 2019 exam pattern, the exam for stage 1 and 2 is a multiple choice test consisting of two parts of 2 hours each-

Part 1: MAT (Mental Ability Test)- It comprises 100 questions of 1 mark each aim at testing the logical and analytical ability of the child.

Part 2: SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test)- It also comprises of 100 questions divided into Social Science (40), Science (40) and Mathematics (20). It aims at testing the subject knowledge of the child.

NTSE Stage 2

Exam pattern for NTSE stage 2 remains the same as stage 1 exam. If there are any changes further it would be notified later.

NTSE Uttar Pradesh

Candidates who are preparing for NTSE UP should practice with previous years question papers and sample papers. It will aid the candidates to be aware of marking scheme, exam pattern and typology of questions. By using the question papers, candidates will be also familiar with the difficulty level of exam.

NTSE Manipur

Department of Education, Manipur publishes the question papers of NTSE Manipur to aid the candidates to prepare for the exam. These question papers are helpful to understand exam pattern, Marking scheme and typology of questions. So candidates should try to solve NTSE question papers in the stipulated time to manage their time.

NTSE Delhi

Candidates should practise with previous years question papers to be familier with the exam patterns, marking scheme and typology of questions asked in the exam. These question paper also aid the candidates to understand the difficulty level of exam. Candidates should try to solve these question papers in the stipulated time and develop their time management skills.

NTSE Andhra Pradesh

Directorate of Government Examination, Andhra Pradesh releases the question papers of NTSE for stage 1 exam so that the candidates can practice with question paper and prepare well for the exam. It makes the candidates aware of exam pattern, marking scheme, typology of questions in the exam.

  • NTSE admit card 2019 for stage 1 was released by respective DGE or SCERT on their official website in the month of October 2018. 
  • The admit card for NTSE 2019 stage 2 will be released on the official website of NCERT in the month of May 2019. All those students who qualify for stage 2 exam must download the admit card. No student is allowed to enter the exam hall without admit card.

NTSE Odisha

Candidates can download the admit card for stage 1 of NTSE Odisha after October 22, 2018, from SCERT or TE Odisha website. Schools and Institutions may also download the admit card and candidates can collect the same from them.

NTSE Stage 2

NCERT issues E-admit card for NTSE stage 2 exam. Candidates need to download, print a copy and paste a recent passport size attested photograph. The admit cards are collected by the centre superintendent on the day of the exam.

Documents Required at Exam

  • Admit Card
  • NTSE answer key is the document which mentions the correct answers in front of the question number. Students can use it to know their probable score by the time result is released. There is a separate answer key released for both the stages of NTSE. The answer key for NTSE stage 1 is released by respective DGE or SCERT while that for NTSE stage 2 is published by NCERT within a few days after the conduction of the exam. 
  • Some reputed coaching centres also release the answer key on the same day of the exam within a few hours after the exam is over.

NTSE Uttar Pradesh

The answer key of NTSE UP 2019 has been released officially. Candidates can download the answer key which contains the correct answers of all the questions asked in the exam. The answer key is helpful to get an idea about the probable score and verify the result. UP NTSE answer key is also released by coaching institutes.

NTSE Manipur

NTSE stage 1 answer key for Manipur is released in online mode. Many of the private institutes also release the answer key which can be used to get an estimate about the marks in stage 1 exam. It is helpful to get an idea about the probable score and by comparing it with cutoff, candidates can have an idea about their selection for stage 2 exam. 

NTSE Andhra Pradesh

DGE, Andhra Pradesh also releases the answer key of NTSE stage 1 exam so that candidates can check their estimated scores and by comparing it with the cutoff marks they can get an idea about their selection for the stage 2 exam. Answer key of Stage 1 NTSE 2019 has been released answer key of stage 1 exam for SAT and MAT papers. Private coaching Institutes also releases the answer key so students can also use that answer key.

  • SCERT, DGE of respective state and union territories have started releasing the NTSE result 2019 for stage 1 exam conducted on November 4. The result has been declared for many of the states and others will also release it by the month of April 2019. Along with the NTSE stage 1 result, cutoff and merit list of selected candidates is also released. All those students whose name is listed in the merit list will appear for NTSE stage 2 exam on June 16, 2019. 
  • It should be noted that States and UTs might come up with a revised merit list for NTSE stage 1 exam. This comes after the increase of NTSE scholarship from 1000 to 2000 thereby increasing the state quota.
  • Delhi and Maharashtra states have been released the revised merit lists for their states.
  • NCERT will publish the NTSE stage 2 result in September 2019 in the form of merit list of selected candidates for NTSE scholarship.

NTSE Rajasthan

Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Rajasthan has declared the Rajasthan NTSE Result 2019 on February 14, 2019. Along with the result, the cutoff of NTSE Rajasthan 2019 has also been released category wise. Qualified candidates of stage 1 will be eligible for stage 2.

NTSE Assam

Director Of Secondary Education Guwahati, Assam has released the result of Assam NTSE 2019 for stage 1 exams. The result was released in online mode in form of merit list of selected candidates which contains the roll number and name of the candidates. Shortlisted candidates will appear for the stage 2 exam which will be held on May 12, 2019.

NTSE Punjab

SCERT Punjab has released the NTSE Punjab Result on January 25, 2019. Candidates can check their result in online mode by downloading the merit list of selected candidates. The overall result is also available to download for all the candidates.

NTSE Chhattisgarh

SCERT Chhattisgarh has released a revised merit list or revised NTSE Chhattisgarh result 2019 after considering the final answer key. The merit list contains the names and roll number of candidates who have qulaified NTSE stage 1 exam from the state. These candidates shall appear for the stage 2 exam on June 16.

NTSE Meghalaya

DERT, Shillong has released the result of NTSE Meghalaya 2019 in online mode. The result is announced in form of merit list of selected candidates. The shortlisted candidates will have to appear for the stage 2 exam which will be conducted on May 12, 2019.

NTSE Sikkim

SCERT, Sikkim has released the result of NTSE Sikkim 2019 in online mode. The result contains Name, Roll number, Father's name and School name of selected candidates. These candidates will have to appear for the stage 2 exam which will be held on May 12, 2019. Stage 2 exam will be conducted by NCERT and result for the same will be announced in the second week of September 2019.

NTSE West Bengal

According to the latest circular, Directorate of School Education, West Bengal will release a revised merit list for NTSE stage 1 for the state on April 10. This comes after NCERT increased the number of scholarships from 1000 to 2000 starting this year. This has led to the increase of state quota too. The Directorate earlier had released the result along with cutoff of NTSE West Bengal for stage 1 on March 11, 2019. Selected candidates will sit for stage 2, which is now scheduled to be conducted on June 16, 2019 and result for same will be announced in the month of September 2019.


NTSE Uttar Pradesh

The result of UP NTSE 2019 has been released on February 28, 2019 in online mode. The result has been published in form of merit list of selected candidates who will be eligible to appear for stage 2 exam. NTSE UP cutoff 2019 has also been published along with the result. Candidates who achieve the cutoff marks can find their name in the merit list. 

NTSE Jammu & Kashmir

JKBOSE has declared the NTSE Jammu & Kashmir stage 1 result or merit list on February 1, 2019. It can be downloaded in the form of pdf which mentions the merit list of shortlisted candidates selected for stage 2 exam conducted by NCERT.

NTSE GOA

NTSE Goa Result 2019 will be announced in the month of February 2019. It could be downloaded in the form of pdf. It mentions the student's name and school name who have successfully qualified for level 2/ NTSE Stage 2 exam.

NTSE Uttarakhand

SCERT, Uttarakhand has released the result of NTSE Uttarakhand 2019 on January 16, 2019. Selected candidates will be eligible to appear for NTSE Stage 2 exam to be held on May 12, 2019.

NTSE Manipur

NTSE Manipur result 2019 has been declared on February 22, 2019 in the form of merit list, which can be downloaded as a pdf. The file contains the basic details of selected candidates along with marks secured in the exam. Students who qualify stage 1 exam will appear for stage 2 exam scheduled to be conducted on May 12, 2019.

NTSE Delhi

NTSE Delhi Result 2019 was declared on February 27, 2019 in online mode but later it has been revised due to increase in the number of scholarships. Revised merit list of selected candidates have been published which is mentioning the basic details of selected candidates along with the marks secured by them. SCERT Delhi also released the cutoff along with the result. The selected candidates will appear on the national level NTSE exam which will be held on June 16, 2019 and finally selected candidates will eligible to get the scholarship.

NTSE Himachal Pradesh

NTSE Himachal Pradesh result 2019 has been released by SCERT, HP on February 6, 2019. Qualified candidates are eligible for NTSE stage 2 exam which will be conducted on May 12, 2019.

NTSE Kerala

SCERT, Kerala has declared the NTSE 2019 stage 1 result on February 13, 2019 in online mode. The result mentions candidates MAT, SAT and total score. Selected candidates will go on to write the NTSE stage 2 exam. 

NTSE Haryana

SCERT Haryana, Gurgaon will release the revised merit list of NTSE stage 1 for the state on March 18, 2019. This comes after NCERT increased the number of scholarships from 1000 to 2000 starting this year. SCERT had announced the NTSE Haryana 2019 result for stage 1 on January 24, 2019, in the online mode. Selected candidates will be eligible to appear for stage 2, which will now be held on June 16, 2019.

NTSE Madhya Pradesh

NTSE Madhya Pradesh Result 2019 has been announced in online mode. The result is published in form of merit list mentioning the name of the students qualified for NTSE stage 2 exam. Students can check and download the result in the form of pdf using the link given above.

NTSE Andhra Pradesh

NTSE Andhra Pradesh Result 2019 was released on February 20, 2019, along with the cutoff. The result of NTSE 2019 Andhra Pradesh was declared in form of a list of selected candidates. Students who qualify for NTSE stage 1 exam will appear for NTSE stage 2 exam to be conducted on May 12, 2019, and the result for stage 2 NTSE 2019 will declare in the month of September 2019. Finally selected candidates will be awarded scholarships.

NTSE Maharashtra

The result for NTSE stage 1 has been declared for all the candidates who appeared for the exam in online mode. The category wise cutoff and merit list of selected candidates has also been released along with the result. All the candidates who find their names in the merit list will appear for the stage 2 exam on June 16, 2019.

NTSE Chandigarh

NTSE Chandigarh Result 2019 will be declared in the month of February 2019. The list of selected candidates for stage 2 exam can be downloaded in the form of pdf.

NTSE Karnataka

SCERT Karnataka has released the NTSE Karnataka 2019 result on January 5, 2019 in the online mode. The result of NTSE Karnataka 2019 is released district-wise with scores of GMAT, SAT and total marks scored by all candidates. The cut off of NTSE Karnataka will be released soon.

NTSE Telangana

NTSE Telangana stage 1 result has been declared by Directorate of Government examination in the online mode. It is published in form of a list of selected candidates for stage 2 exam which can be downloaded as a pdf. The list mentions the candidates' name, roll no., school address, category, marks and rank. Students who qualify stage 1 exam will appear for NTSE stage 2 exam on May 12, 2019.

NTSE Odisha

SCERT, Odisha has declared the NTSE Odisha 2019 result for Stage 1 on January 28, 2019 in the online mode. The result is released in the form of provisionally selected candidates for NTSE stage 2 exam. The official answer key and link to check OMR are also available along with the result. Along with the declaration of NTSE Odisha result 2019, the State Education Board of Odisha has also released the cutoff and shortlisted students will be able to appear in the Stage 2 examination on May 12. The result of NTSE Odisha 2019 mentions a candidate’s name, roll number, school name and address along with the category he/she belongs to. NTSE for the state of Odisha was held on November 4, 2018. Those who qualify in the first stage will be allowed to sit for the second stage of NTSE, which is the national level exam conducted by NCERT.

NTSE Puducherry

The Directorate of School Education(DSE), Pondicherry has announced the result of NTSE Puducherry Result in online mode. The result is published in the form of merit list of selected candidates for stage 2 exam on May 12, 2019.

NTSE Stage 2

NCERT declares NTSE stage 2 result in the second week of September, 2019. It publishes a list of candidates with their roll no., name, fathers name and category. Students who qualify both the stages are eligible to avail NTSE scholarship.

NTSE cutoff 2019 is the minimum score a candidate must obtain in order to qualify for the next stage. The cutoff is also released separately for both the stages of NTSE. West Bengal, Manipur, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and Karnataka have released the cutoff score for their states while others will publish it soon. NTSE stage 2 cutoff will be released along with the result in the month of September 2019.
