Samsung announces 150 scholarships for JNV students

Samsung-JNVSamsung India has announced scholarships for 150 students from the current batch of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) under its ‘Samsung Star Scholar’ programme on August 2, 2017, raising the total number of scholarships offered to 300. An annual scholarship of Rs. 2 lakhs will be awarded to outstanding students from JNVs who have qualified for an IIT or an NIT this year. The financial aid will be provided every year for upto five years to the recipients to help cover a significant share of their educational expenses, including tuition, hostel and mess fees. These 150 students will be selected for the scholarship programme based on their ranks secured in the JEE Main for B. Tech/Dual Degree (B.Tech + M.Tech).

 

Sharing the vision behind the programme, Deepak Bhardwaj, Vice President, CSR, Samsung India, said, “After the success of the first edition of ‘Samsung Star Scholar’ programme in 2016, Samsung India is offering 150 new scholarships this year. The aim is to nurture young bright minds of India by fostering outstanding academic excellence in students from rural backgrounds. We seek to support them in getting the recognition that they deserve and enable them to pursue their dream of studying at the top colleges in the country.”

 

Students can visit Samsung’s website to learn more about the scholarship programme. The application period for the ‘Samsung Star Scholar’ programme will remain open until August 31, 2017.

 

Samsung began the ‘Star Scholar’ programme in 2016, wherein 150 students were provided scholarships for their higher studies. These students will continue to receive their scholarship amount for the second year. Samsung partnered with the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti in 2013 and currently has Samsung Smart Classes operational in 476 JNVs across the country.
